Schleich Arabian Mare Toy Figure
Arabian horses were bred by Bedouins and lived with the families in the desert - sometimes they even slept in their tents! Today these remarkable horses can be recognized by their tails and head form. Almost all horse breeds go back to an Arabian bloodline, as Arabian horses were crossed in order to pass on certain characteristics such as speed, endurance and a disposition for healthy bones to other breeds. Arabians are characterized by a readiness of mind and a willingness to cooperate, as well as alertness and temperament. The 'Versatile Arabian' often wins at endurance competitions and is a popular breed worldwide.

Schleich Koala Bear with Cub Toy Figure
Koalas are marsupials solely native to Australia, because only there, these adorable animals find the food conditions they need. Koalas depend on eucalyptus trees and these bears are able to tolerate the slightly poisonous leaves without difficulty. A full-grown male can grow up to 85 cm and weigh up to 14 kg. Originally, koalas were all over Australia. Due to heavy hunting, large populations are now only to be found in the east coast. With their brownish to silver-grey fur, their bushy ears and their button eyes, koalas are an inspiration for many cuddly toys and in particular teddy bears. Along with kangaroos, koalas are considered the symbol of Australia.

Schleich Chimpanzee Female with Baby Toy Figure
Chimpanzees live together in larger groups of up to 150 individuals, headed by an alpha male. Just like humans, their hands have thumbs they can oppose to other digits. Therefore, they are able to grab things carefully. They use branches as tools to search a termite hill for food for example. Young chimps learn how to make and use such tools from their parents. They mainly have a vegetarian diet, but occasionally eat meat as well. Chimpanzees mostly run on all fours. Short distances can also be covered half-standing on their legs. Every four to six years, a chimp mother gives birth to an infant that will be raised by her for the next ten years. Chimpanzees have a life expectancy of up to 60 years.

Schleich Sheep Toy Figure
Sheep have been used as productive livestock for centuries and provide meat, skin and wool. As herbivores and ruminants they are busy with either grazing or ruminating. As there are hundreds of breeds, there can be huge differences between these mammals with regard to coat and size. Sheep weigh between 45 and 180 kilos and can reach an age of between ten and twenty years. They compensate for their limited spatial vision with excellent hearing and a very sensitive sense of smell. In the herd, sheep usually follow the instructions of a shepherd, but they also have their own hierarchy.

Schleich Moose Calf 14621
Making this tall forest dweller even taller are the antlers he carries on his head. Known as elk in Europe, moose are the largest of all the deer family. These large animals have elaborate forking antlers and long dark brown hair. They live in northern forests where alder, aspen, and willows abound. Moose are particularly well adapted to cold weather and prefer to live where summer temperatures don't get any hotter than sixty degrees. They eat newly grown leaves, as well as the tips of twigs. Their twelve sets of broad teeth at the rear of the mouth, six pairs of molars and six pairs of premolars, help them grind up even the toughest woody plants. Their rutting (or breeding) season lasts from early September to late October. Each year during the rut they lose their antlers; they then re-grow another set during the winter that follows. Most of the year, moose stay away from people, but during rutting season they've been known to charge people, cars, and even houses!
