Generation of Surfaces: Kinematic Geometry of Surface Machining
A commonly used practice in industry is the machining of sculptured part surfaces on a multiaxis numerical control (NC) machine. While this practice is vital, it is also a costly aspect of the surface generation process. After investing more than 40 years of research into the theory of part surface generation, the author of Generation of Surfaces: Kinematic Geometry of Surface Machining considers an approach that provides optimal machining while factoring in the lowest possible cost. This book presents the modern theory of part surface generation with a focus on kinematic geometry of part surface machining on a multiaxis (NC) machine, and introduces key methods for applying the DG/K-based approach to part surface generation. The DG/K approach is based on the results of research found in two main areas: differential geometry (DG) of surfaces, and kinematics (K) of rigid body in three-dimensional Euclidian space E3. It is an extremely powerful tool for solving a plurality of problems in mechanical/manufacturing engineering. The text is presented in three parts: the basics, the fundamentals, and applications of part surface generation. The first part of the book provides an analytical description of part surfaces, details the principal elements of the theory of multiparametric motion of a rigid body in E3 space, and defines applied coordinate systems. The second half introduces the theory of part surface generation, and includes an analytical description of contact geometry, while the final portion illustrates the potential development of highly effective part surface generation methods. The author illustrates the most complex features of the book with examples, explains all of the results of analysis mathematically, and uses just one set of input parameters-the design parameters of the part surface to be machined. The book considers practical applications for part surface machining and cutting tool design. Developed for use with computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided machining (CAM), this text is useful for anyone starting work on new software packages for sculptured part surface machining on a multiaxis NC machine.

High-Conformal Gearing: Kinematics and Geometry
Presents a Concept That Makes Gear Transmissions Noiseless, Smaller, and Lighter in Weight High-conformal gearing is a new gear system inspired by the human skeleton. Unlike conventional external involute gearing, which features convex-to-convex contact, high-conformal gearing features a convex-to-concave type of contact between the tooth flanks of the gear and the mating pinion. This provides gear teeth with greater contact strength, supports the conditions needed to transmit a rotation smoothly and efficiently, and helps eliminate mistakes in the design of high-conformal gearings. High-Conformal Gearing: Kinematics and Geometry provides a framework for ideal conditions and a clear understanding of this novel concept. A step-by-step guide to complex gear geometry, the book addresses the kinematics and the geometry of conformal (Novikov gearing) and high-conformal gearing. Written by a world-renowned gear specialist, it introduces the principles of high-conformal gearing and outlines its production, inspection, application, and design. Providing complete coverage of this subject, the author: Reveals how under equal rest of the conditions, high-conformal gearing allows for the highest possible power density, the lowest possible weight, and the highest contact strength Explains how developed conformal and high-conformal gearings represent examples of geometrically accurate (ideal) gearings Proves that the ideal non-involute conformal and high-conformal gears cannot be machined by gear-generating processes Proposes a distinction between Wildhaber and Novikov gearings High-Conformal Gearing: Kinematics and Geometry focuses on the design and generation of conformal and high-conformal gearings and can aid mechanical, automotive, and robotics engineers specializing in gear design with successfully transmitting a rotation. It also serves as a resource for graduate students taking advanced courses in gear design.

Theory of Gearing: Kinematics, Geometry, and Synthesis
The first book of its kind, Theory of Gearing: Kinematics, Geometry, and Synthesis systematically develops a scientific theory of gearing that makes it possible to synthesize novel gears with the desired performance. Written by a leading gearing expert who holds more than 200 patents, it presents a modern methodology for gear design. The proposed theory is based on a key postulate: all the design parameters for an optimal gear pair for a particular application can be derived from (a) a given configuration of the rotation vectors of the driving and driven shafts and (b) the power transmitted by the gear pair. This allows engineers to synthesize the desired gear pairs with only the following input information: The rotation and torque on the driving shaft The configuration of the driven shaft in relation to the driving shaft The desired rotation and torque of the driven shaft Beginning with the fundamentals, the book reconsiders the basic theory of kinematics and geometry of gears to provide a sound basis for the evaluation and development of future designs. It then examines ideal and real gearing for parallel-axis, intersected-axis, and crossed-axis gearing. The book addresses how to minimize vibration and noise in gears, discusses aspects of implementing the theory of gearing, and analyzes principal features of power transmission and the loading of gear teeth. More than 500 figures clearly illustrate the principles. This is an invaluable resource for engineers and researchers who work in gear design, gear production, and the application of gears as well as for students in mechanical and manufacturing engineering. Covering all known gear designs, this book offers an analytical solution to the problem of designing optimal gear pairs for any given application. It also encourages researchers to further develop the theory of gearing.

Kinematic Geometry of Surface Machining
The principle of Occam's razor loosely translates to the simplest solution is often the best . The author of Kinematic Geometry of Surface Machining utilizes this reductionist philosophy to provide a solution to the highly inefficient process of machining sculptured parts on multi-axis NC machines. He has developed a method to quickly calculate the necessary parameters, greatly reduce trial and error, and achieve efficient machining processes by using less input information, and in turn saving a great deal of time. This unique method will allow youto calculate optimal values for all major parameters of sculptured surface machining on multi-axis NC machines. It is much faster than conventional methods because it requires only minimal input information for the development of extremely efficient machining operations. Radzevich simply utilizes the geometric information of a particular part surface to be machined for developing optimal surface machining process rather than wasting time dealing with unnecessary data. This one-of-a-kind resource guides you through this cutting-edge technique beginning with an analytical description of part surfaces, the basics of differential geometry for sculptured surfaces, and the principal elements of the multi-parametric motion on a rigid body in E3 space theory. The book reveals the analytical method for investigating cutting tool geometry and explains a set of described conditions required for proper part surface generation. Next, the author illustrates the selection of criterion for optimization and describes the synthesis of optimal machining operations. He includes examples of the DG/K based method of surface generation implementation. Written by a leading expert in the field who holds over 150 patents, Kinematic Geometry of Surface Machining invokes Occam's well-known philosophical principle so that you can apply the simplest solution to achieve optimal, time-saving surface machining processes.
