Confessions of a Christian Humanist
How can one genuinely follow Jesus today, and what does that mean about one's lifestyle, social and political commitments, and ethical stance? In this fine work, internationally renowned theologian John de Gruchy answers that question. Reviving an almost silenced tradition, he lifts the banner of Christian humanism - not secular humanism with a Christian veneer, but a critical retrieval of Christianity's core convictions and values in ways that are both critical of and yet constructively engaged with secular culture in serving the well-being of humanity.

Erleosung: Transformationen Einer Idee Im 19. Jahrhundert
English summary: Using the concept of redemption as an example, Claus-Dieter Osthovener examines the reception and the transformation of themes which were originally of a religious nature in non-theological contexts. The Protestant concept of redemption was first described by Martin Luther and was given a modern reformulation by Friedrich Schleiermacher. After dealing with this subject, the author compares three thinkers from the 19th century: Arthur Schopenhauer, Richard Wagner and Friedrich Nietzsche, and reflects systematically and from the perspective of the history of the problem upon the ways in which they transformed the concept of redemption.. At the same time he compares their theories to the way the concept of redemption is dealt with in theology.
