Will You Love Me? The Rescue Dog that Rescued Me
Rain is lashing down when Barby Keel is called out to an emergency unfolding at the gates of her animal sanctuary, deep in the Sussex countryside. A greyhound had been dumped under the cover of darkness, and is at death's door. In the 37 years she has dedicated her life to the welfare of animals, Barby has witnessed the horrors that humans are capable of, but never has she seen anything as barbaric as this poor dog's condition. Cigarette burns scar his flank, and he is so malnourished that he struggles to stand, every rib showing through his patchy fur. It's touch-and-go whether he will survive the night. The dog, who Barby names Bailey, proves he has a fighting spirit and, slowly but surely, begins the long road to recovery. But Barby is facing her own battle with ill health - one that threatens the future of the entire sanctuary... Will You Love Me? is an emotional, joyful true story of the deepest bond that exists between humans and animals, and shows how in rescuing others, we can rescue ourselves.

Zelda, The Queen of Paris: The True Story of The Luckiest Dog in The World
Move over, Marley: here comes Zelda, a scruffy, high-spirited dog struggling to survive in the mean streets of India -- until she charms her way into an American family and goes on to fame and glory in Paris, Italy, and California Wine Country. In India, wild scavenging street dogs are considered the lowest of the low. Shopkeepers swat them away with brooms. Mothers scream at them and kick them away from their kids. Taxi drivers often drive straight at them and even run them down. After a little time in India you can understand why: These dogs can be vicious, and many carry nasty infections and disease, including rabies. Not surprisingly, most of these dogs come to a miserable end. This is the story of one lowly street dog who was determined to do better. One day, while roaming the streets of New Delhi and begging for something, anything to eat, she found her way to the backdoor of Paul Chutkow and his very pregnant wife Eda. Paul wanted no part of this mangy mutt; India was in the throes of a major political crisis, their first child was on the way, and this dog promised to be nothing but trouble. But this little beast had charm, humor, and a magnificent spirit: if beg she must, she would do so with dignity and her best paw forward. For Paul and Eda, there was simply no resisting her. Soon, Zelda was an essential part of their young family, and before long she was on her way to Paris and a life far beyond anyone's dreams: with royal care, gourmet meals, and heavenly summers on the island of Sardinia. At first, her Parisian neighbors shunned the lowly mutt and wished she'd go away. But when Zelda alertly captured a very high-end wine thief -- only in France! -- she won every heart in the neighborhood and was promptly crowned The Queen of Paris. What a girl! What a story! And what a delightful addition to the wealth of dog books that so many American readers love and cherish!

Pets and Puppies
Pets and Puppies is Monica Easton's personal account of a life devoted to animals, tracking the joys and sorrows of pet ownership. Packed with anecdotes, verse and stories, this book also chronicles Monica's work with guide dog puppies during the first year of their life and training. Monica's household has been home to a mixed bag of creatures providing plenty of stories: some happy, some sad, some very unusual, but all made life very interesting and entertaining. With tales of a fleet-footed hamster who could climb 14 stairs in 9 seconds, a football playing dog who was a wizard on the dribble and a polecat that gave birth to a litter of eights kits the day after she was rescued, Pets and Puppies gives an insight into the life of an animal lover. After the death of her first pet dog, Monica applied to walk guide dog puppies and was accepted as a volunteer. She spent thirty years walking twenty-seven puppies in preparation for their further training at a year old. In her book, she recounts the different characters she met along the way: puppies who refused to walk, one who was agoraphobic, one who play fought with their bantam cock, another who stole food, shredded clothes and toys, and one who needed hydrotherapy treatment after surgery. The book also tells of dogs that did not qualify to become guide dogs and returned to Monica's family to enrich their lives, and some who returned to them after retirement and still offered a challenge.

Not Just for Christmas
'Such a funny, sparky book... An ideal read for anyone who is a fan of Christmas or dogs - or both!' Sophie Kinsella Charlie hates the holidays, and this year is shaping up to be her worst yuletide ever. Her boyfriend has left her for his personal trainer, her flat is out of bounds after a gas leak, and her mother has gone to spend Christmas in Melbourne with her fifth husband. Finding herself single, mildly concussed and temporarily homeless, Charlie hesitantly agrees to dust off her wellies and spend the festive season in Devon, looking after Cosy Canine Cottages, her cousin Jez's dog-care centre. However, her plans for a quiet rural Christmas with only the four-legged friends for company are dashed as soon as she meets Malcolm the deaf Great Dane, Hugo, his gorgeous (but engaged) owner, and Cal, the undeniably attractive but unbearably haughty and patronising local vet... 'Fabulous romantic escapism' Heat * Not Just for Christmas is published as Mutts and Mistletoe in the US. *

Hero Dogs: How a Pack of Rescues, Rejects, and Strays Became America's Greatest Disaster-Search Partners
Ana and Hunter were failed service dogs. Recon was left for dead on the train tracks. Cody was returned to the shelter seven times before he turned two. To most, these dogs were unadoptable. Unsalvageable. Irredeemable. To retired gym teacher and grandma Wilma Melville, they were the heroes America needed. While volunteering as a canine search-and-rescue handler during the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, Wilma saw how ill-prepared the country was to respond to disasters. Then and there, beside her loyal Black Lab, Murphy, she made a pact, single handedly founding the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation (SDF) and beginning a journey that would change the face of search-and-rescue in America forever. But even Wilma could not predict how desperately her idea would soon be needed. With 9/11, the scope of disaster response in America changed in an instant, and people across the country realised how crucial these dogs were, launching the SDF to a national stage. In this gripping, heart wrenching story, Wilma and writer Paul Lobo trace the paths of the amazing animals, firefighters, and volunteers who brought Wilma's dream to fruition. They recount struggles and triumphs as the dogs and their handlers face off with hurricanes, bombings, and other staggering disasters. Along the way, we witness the unshakeable bonds that develop between humans and these remarkable dogs.

'It is actually a serious book, but it had me laughing out loud several times on the Tube. All mothers should receive one for Christmas.' Marcus Berkmann, Spectator Everyone who loves The Crown on Netflix will enjoy this celebration of Queen Elizabeth II and her beloved canine friends. The Queen has had corgis by her side ever since she was seven years old and persuaded her father to buy one for the family. She also has several dorgis (a cross resulting from an accidental liaison between one of the Queen's corgis and Princess Margaret's dachshund) and is a passionate breeder of gundogs. The dogs are the Queen's constant companions, travelling with her by air, road and rail, from one royal residence to another. She walks and feeds them herself, chooses names for them, and at the end of their days, buries them with personalised plaques to commemorate each individual. Penny Junor reveals the scraps and scrapes that the dogs have been involved in - the hierarchy amongst them, the corgis' feisty attitude to footmen and guests, gardeners and innocent passersby. This fascinating and affectionate look at the Queen and her most faithful companions is a book for dog lovers everywhere about what really makes our much-loved and longest reigning monarch truly light up.

Afterglow: A Dog Memoir
Skinny's Book of the Year, 2018 In 1990, Myles chose Rosie from a litter on the street, and their connection instantly made an indelible impact on the writer's way of being. Over the course of sixteen years together, Myles was devoted to the pit bull and their linked quality of life. And starting from the emptiness following Rosie's death, Afterglow launches a playful and incisive investigation into the mostly mutually beneficial, sometimes reprehensible power dynamics between pet and pet-owner. At the same time, it reimagines Myles's experiences with alcoholism and recovery, intimacy and mourning, celebrity and politics, spirituality and family history, while joyously transcending the parameters of memoir. Moving from an imaginary talk show where Rosie is interviewed by Myles's childhood puppet, to a critical reenactment of the night Rosie mated with another pit bull; from shimmering poetic transcriptions of video footage taken during their walks, to Rosie's final enlightened narration from the afterlife, this totally singular text combines elements of science fiction, screenplay, monologue, and lucid memory to get to the heart of how and why we dedicate our existence to our dogs.

Four- Legged Therapy is a delightfully illustrated collection of ten stories that recognise the therapeutic value of having animals in our lives. A charming exploration of how pets can support our minds and bodies in everyday life. From grumpy cats, fat dogs and muddy ducks to goats in a classroom and rescue-hens in a care home, this book recognises animals as the unsung heroes that save lives and make life worth living. Animals offer companionship, love and fun. They teach us the gift of kindness and acceptance. They can connect us to the world, slow down time and sharpen our senses in a kind of informal meditation. They can be good listeners, offering reassurance and devotion that steadies our self-esteem. They ask us for routine and consistency, to show a kind of resilience that is good for us. Your dog's utter faith in your humanity will make you feel like more and more of a human, every day - Caroline O'Donoghue, author of 'Promising Young Women', shortlisted for the Irish Book Awards writing about the joy of unconditional from her Jack-Russell terrier, Sylvie. I feel as if I've been permitted a glimpse into the wonder at the very heart of life, led there by my dog - Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg, author of Things My Dog Has Taught Me: About being a better human.

With Dogs at the Edge of Life
In this original and provocative book, Colin Dayan tackles head-on the inexhaustible world, at once tender and fierce, of dogs and humans. We follow the tracks of dogs in the bayous of Louisiana, the streets of Istanbul, and the humane societies of the United States, and in the memories and myths of the humans who love them. Dayan reorients our ethical and political assumptions through a trans-species engagement that risks as much as it promises. She makes a powerful case for questioning what we think of as our deepest-held beliefs and, with dogs in the lead, unsettles the dubious promises of liberal humanism. Moving seamlessly between memoir, case law, and film, Dayan takes politics and animal studies in a new direction--one that gives us glimpses of how we can think beyond ourselves and with other beings. Her unconventional perspective raises hard questions and renews what it means for any animal or human to live in the twenty-first century. Nothing less than a challenge for us to confront violence and suffering even in the privileged precincts of modernity, this searing and lyrical book calls for another way to think the world. Theoretically sophisticated yet aimed at a broad readership, With Dogs at the Edge of Life illuminates how dogs--and their struggles--take us beyond sentimentality and into a form of thought that can make a difference to our lives.

Sharing Our Horizon: A Journey Through the Scottish Highlands with Two Adopted Whippets
Welcome to Sharing Our Horizon, a selection of poems and photographs from the popular blog Whippet Wisdom that capture daily moments in the Scottish Highlands with our two adopted whippets, Eivor and Pearl. Like most dogs, Eivor and Pearl love spending time in nature. They have taken us to places we had never visited before and the restorative energies of those quiet beaches, mountains and glens have played a big part in their rehabilitation. The poems and images show the beauty in each moment and the potential for the healing that spending time in nature brings. The prologue and title poem 'Sharing our Horizon' invites us to pause and see the gifts in these moments. The opening poem 'Before the Daffodils' is a distilled version of conversations and observations in and around animal rehoming shelters. It reminds us that sometimes, dogs are surrendered when people realise that simply loving a dog is not enough. A dog also deserves regular exercise, regular stimulation, socialisation and play-time. A good home provides all of this, in addition to love, food and shelter. The majority of poems are a modern take on the ancient Japanese poetry forms of haibun, haiku and tanka. Traditionally, these poems begin with quiet poetic observation and conclude with a moment of philosophical of spiritual insight. They are written in rhythm with the seasons and the fluctuations of the weather within those seasons. Like the traditional haiku poets, I would describe haiku as a way of life, a way to look and marvel at nature and see the magic in the ordinary. To me, this is very much in the spirit of how Eivor and Pearl look at the joys of the everyday and the beauty nature offers. By capturing these moments in a few words others can experience a glimpse of what we see and connect it to their own experience. For those who are interested in finding out more about the history of these Japanese poetry forms, the book offers a helpful section 'About the Poetry Forms' at the back of the book as well as a Bibliography for further reading. The overall theme of the poems and images is how rewarding adopting a rescue dog can be, how they enjoy being part of a pack and how they thrive when allowed to spend time in natural settings. The natural beauty of the Scottish Highlands is visible in the images throughout. Sixty per cent of net profits from the sale of this book will be shared with animal rehoming charities at the end of each financial year.

Dogs on Jumpers: Best in show knitting patterns for adults and children
After successfully combining their two great loves - dogs and knitting - in their bestselling Best In Show books, Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne are back with a new range of knitting patterns for jumpers, accessories and baby items all featuring dog motifs. Dogs on Jumpers pairs simplicity and flexibility with knitwear patterns for men, women, children and babies. There are eighteen featured dog breeds, each with a graph for adult jumpers, alongside 8 additional graphs tailored to child and baby jumpers. Featured breeds include Labrador, Lurcher, Beagle, Dalmatian, Pug, French Bulldog, Golden Retriever, Chihuahua, Springer Spaniel, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Labradoodle, Jack Russell, Miniature Schnauzer, Whippet, Border Terrier, Border Collie, West Highland Terrier and Dachshund. There are three adult jumper shapes and three child/baby shapes, each with their own master pattern: Woman's neat and boxy Raglan jumper; Woman's long and loose jumper; Man's relaxed jumper; Child's dropped shoulder jumper; Baby's Raglan jumper (suitable for 3 years and under); and an easy Baby cardigan (suitable for 6 months and under). Once you've selected the shape of your jumper, simply choose your dog motif and get knitting! You can even adapt the designs to knit your own dog onto a jumper! Play around with colours and markings, with the position of the dog on the jumper and with the shape of the background - square, oval or stripe. Among the graphs at the back of the book you'll also find an alphabet graph, so you can either make up your own dog-related phrases, or add your dog's name or initials. With clear patterns for jumpers, accessories (including a hat and scarf), a baby blanket, a dalmatian onesie and even a dog coat, alongside advice on techniques and yarn choice, plus irresistible lifestyle photography from founder of Phodography, Ursula Aitchison, this is the perfect book for knitters and dog lovers alike.

Furbex: A Dog's Life of Urban Exploration
Claire is not your everyday practitioner of urbex, the modern underground passion for urban exploration that lures 21st-century adventurers into the hidden labyrinths and decaying chambers of disused buildings and urban spaces. Claire is, you see, a bull terrier. And with her photographer companion, Alice Van Kempen, she has created the canine expression of the art . . . furbex. Furbex is a dazzling photographic record of Claire's adventures among the abandoned spaces of Europe. It captures her ghostly presence in ruined hotels and grand houses; crumbling castles and palaces; forgotten theaters and cinemas. Fascinated by shadows and light, past and present, and the mysterious, dark worlds of abandoned places, Alice van Kempen uses thrift shop props and long exposures to create photographs with the air of Old Master paintings; while Claire's tragi-comic presence imbues every image with the pathos and comedy of a silent movie. The result is a haunting and hilarious gift book of unique photographs, which will appeal to urban explorers, dog lovers (most particularly the cult following of the bull terrier breed), and all lovers of the Gothic, the mysterious and the absurd.

Life skills for puppies: Laying the foundation for a loving, lasting relationship
Every year millions of puppies enter homes, carrying their new family's expectation of a wonderful relationship. Sadly, many are rehomed or lose their lives as the result of behaviours which their owners find difficult to live with. Helping a puppy to grow into a resilient dog, capable of coping with the challenges of daily living, whilst retaining a good quality of life and exhibiting behaviours acceptable within society, is not an easy task. 'Life Skills for Puppies' aims to simplify puppy education by presenting the skills that are required to achieve these goals within the context of everyday life. By enabling owners to incorporate teaching into each interaction they enjoy with their puppy, it not only becomes easier for them, but also enables the puppy to practice appropriate behaviour choices within day-to-day situations. By teaching skills such as self-control, respect for rules, and clear communication, owners can spend less time directing their dog, and more time enjoying their relationship with him, as he takes more control for his own good behaviour. Beautiful, specially-taken photographs illustrate the points made, and each chapter includes a worksheet to help owners chart their puppy's progress.
