Herbal Formularies for Health Professionals is a five-volume set that serves as a comprehensive, practical reference manual for herbalists, physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals. Dr. Jill Stansbury draws on her decades of clinical experience and her extensive research to provide an unparalleled range of herbal formulas. Organized by body system, each volume includes hundreds of formulas to treat common health conditions, as well as formulas that address specific energetic or symptomatic presentations. For each formula, Dr. Stansbury briefly explains how the selected herbs address the specific condition. Sidebars and user-friendly lists help readers quickly choose which herbs are best for specific presentations and detail traditional uses of both Western and traditional Asian formulas and herbs that are readily available in the United States. Volume 4 focuses on herbal formulas that are complementary therapies to treatment of peripheral nerve issues, including neuropathy and nerve trauma, and central nervous system issues such as seizures, Parkinson's disease, and dementia. A chapter on psychiatric disorders focuses on herbal therapies for common conditions such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, dissociative disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as the use of herbal formulas in treatment of those dealing with drug addiction. A chapter on pain management provides herbal formulas for both acute and chronic pain conditions, including headaches, sinus pain, muscle pain, neuralgia, gastrointestinal pain, and pain from injuries. Each chapter includes a materia medica section that describes individual herbs with tips on their properties, modes of action, and the specific symptoms each plant best addresses. These formularies are also a tutorial for budding herbalists on the sophisticated art of fine-tuning an herbal formula for the constitution and overall health condition of an individual patient, rather than prescribing a one-size-fits-all treatment for a basic diagnosis. The text aims to teach by example, helping clinicians develop their own intuition and ability to create effective herbal formulas. Volume 1 focuses on digestion and elimination; Volume 2 covers circulation and respiration; and Volume 3 focuses on endocrinology and the reproductive systems. Volume 5, which will cover immunology, orthopedics, and otolaryngology, will be published in spring 2021.

Tiny You: A Western History of the Anti-Abortion Movement
Tiny You tells the story of one of the most successful political movements of the twentieth century: the grassroots campaign against legalized abortion. While Americans have rapidly changed their minds about sex education, pornography, arts funding, gay teachers, and ultimately gay marriage, opposition to legalized abortion has only grown. As other socially conservative movements have lost young activists, the pro-life movement has successfully recruited more young people to their cause. Jennifer L. Holland explores why abortion dominates conservative politics like no other cultural issue. Looking at anti-abortion movements in four western states since the 1960s-turning to the fetal pins passed around church services, the graphic images exchanged between friends, and the fetus dolls given to children in school-she argues that activists made fetal life feel personal to many Americans. Pro-life activists persuaded people to see themselves in the pins, images, and dolls they held in their hands and made the fight against abortion the primary bread-and-butter issue for social conservatives. Holland ultimately demonstrates that the success of the pro-life movement lies in the borrowed logic and emotional power of leftist activism.

Amazingly delicious and beautiful gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar-free desserts from the popular Bakerita blog Rachel Conners began her blog as a hobby to share baking recipes with friends, but when she started to focus more on gluten-free, paleo, and vegan recipes to make things she could share with her sister, who was following a strict diet due to health concerns, Rachel quickly realized she was onto something. Bakerita surged in popularity as fans flocked to it for delicious and beautifully photographed recipes. Interest in gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar-free foods continues to grow in popularity, yet there are remarkably few books available focused just on desserts, and even fewer with recipes that even beginner bakers can make at home. That's where Bakerita comes in, offering recipes for everything from breakfast treats like Lavender-Lemon Raspberry Scones, pies and tarts such as Chocolate Mousse Pie, cakes including Mocha Chip Cheesecake, and updated all-time favorites like chocolate chip cookies, all made without any hard-to-find ingredients.

Universal Design for Learning in Physical Education
The practice of universal design--of making a product or environment accessible to all individuals--has been around for a long time. But, until now, that practice has never been explored in depth in the field of physical education. This groundbreaking text provides a much-needed link between universal design and physical education, extending boundaries as it offers physical educators a systematic guide to create, administer, manage, assess, and apply universal design for learning (UDL). Universal Design for Learning in Physical Education is for all physical educators--those who are or are preparing to become general PE teachers as well as those who are in the field of adapted physical education. This resource offers the following: Ready-to-use curricular units for grades K-12, with 31 universally designed lessons that demonstrate how teachers can apply UDL in specific content areas (teachers can also use those examples to build their own units and lessons) Rubrics for the 28 items on the Lieberman-Brian Inclusion Rating Scale for Physical Education (LIRSPE) to help teachers follow best practices in inclusion Tables, timelines, and paraeducator training checklists to ensure that UDL is effectively delivered from the beginning of the school year In her earlier text, Strategies for Inclusion, Third Edition, coauthor Lauren Lieberman included a valuable chapter about UDL that focused on detailed, practical steps for making classes inclusive. Universal Design for Learning in Physical Education approaches inclusion from the macro level, providing a comprehensive conceptual model of UDL and how to incorporate it into curriculum planning and teaching methods for K-12 physical education. Outcomes for Universal Design for Learning in Physical Education are aligned with SHAPE America's physical education standards and grade-level outcomes. Given that 94 percent of students with disabilities are taught in physical education settings, this text offers highly valuable guidance to general physical educators in providing equal access to, and engagement in, high-quality physical education for all students. Part I of Universal Design for Learning in Physical Education defines universal design and explains how it relates to physical education. It identifies barriers that teachers may face in adapting UDL to their programs and how to overcome these barriers. It also addresses critical assessment issues and guides teachers in supporting students with severe or multiple disabilities. Part I also covers advocacy issues such as how to teach students to speak up for their own needs and choices. Readers will gain insight into where their programs excel and where barriers might still exist when they employ the Lieberman-Brian Inclusion Rating Scale, a self-assessment tool that helps measure physical, programmatical, and social inclusion. Finally, part I reinforces several UDL principles by sharing many examples of how physical educators have applied UDL in their programs. Part II offers a trove of universally designed units and lesson plans for use across grades K-12, with separate chapters on lessons for elementary, sports, fitness, recreation, and aquatics. Universal Design for Learning in Physical Education is the first text to delve deeply into the concept of universal design in physical education. As such, it is a valuable resource for all PE teachers--both those leading general classes and adapted classes--to learn how to successfully implement universally designed units and lesson plans that enrich all their students' lives.

Health Care Off the Books: Poverty, Illness, and Strategies for Survival in Urban America
Millions of low-income African Americans in the United States lack access to health care. How do they treat their health care problems? In Health Care Off the Books, Danielle T. Raudenbush provides an answer that challenges public perceptions and prior scholarly work. Informed by three and a half years of fieldwork in a public housing development, Raudenbush shows how residents who face obstacles to health care gain access to pharmaceutical drugs, medical equipment, physician reference manuals, and insurance cards by mobilizing social networks that include not only their neighbors but also local physicians. However, membership in these social networks is not universal, and some residents are forced to turn to a robust street market to obtain medicine. For others, health problems simply go untreated. Raudenbush reconceptualizes U.S. health care as a formal-informal hybrid system and explains why many residents who do have access to health services also turn to informal strategies to treat their health problems. While the practices described in the book may at times be beneficial to people's health, they also have the potential to do serious harm. By understanding this hybrid system, we can evaluate its effects and gain new insight into the sources of social and racial disparities in health outcomes.

The New Keto-Friendly South Beach Diet: Rev Your Metabolism and Improve Your Health with the Latest Science of Weight Loss
Boost your metabolism and burn 100-500 more calories per day by putting your body into fat burning mode with a new science-backed update to this proven diet. The New Keto-Friendly South Beach Diet combines the good fats and healthy carbs of the world-famous heart-healthy program with the advanced nutrition science of keto-all in a doctor-approved plan that is easier than strict keto diets. The original South Beach Diet defined the cutting edge of healthy weight loss. Now the creator of the classic plan combines his signature diet with the latest, most cutting-edge advances in healthy eating that are the basis for the ketogenic diet. With a new emphasis on good carbs, healthy fats, and quality proteins, The New Keto-Friendly South Beach Diet takes the powerful fundamentals of the original South Beach Diet and adds the fat-burning principles of keto. Dr. Arthur Agatston cuts through the confusion around keto and low carb diets and gives readers a step-by-step 28-day eating plan that increases satisfaction, decreases appetite, and makes it easy to lose weight and keep it off. He also explains why strict ketosis is not necessary to achieve results; the effectiveness of intermittent fasting; and the relationship between yo-yo-dieting and sugar addiction. This plan offers the benefits of keto and low carb without the pitfalls. As this new book reveals, you can boost your metabolism and put your body safely into fat-burning mode with a diet that's more flexible and more sustainable than traditional keto. And that's not all: in addition to long-term weight loss, the South Beach Keto-Friendly plan can boost mental sharpness, reduce inflammation and pain, increase your energy, and improve diabetes and heart health. Includes around 100 recipes, full-color photos, and an easy-to-follow 28-day meal plan.

Restoring Prana: A Therapeutic Guide to Pranayama and Healing Through the Breath for Yoga Therapists, Yoga Teachers, and Healthcare Practitioners
One of the most common issues clients face is lack of energy, vitality or prana and this book presents a simple yet revolutionary breathing approach to restore balance. Grounded in the yogic teachings, this text introduces the Buteyko breathing method as a more contemporary way of understanding the original intention of pranayama. Through extensive research, Robin Rothenberg establishes that as with Dr. Buteyko's breath retraining technique, the ancient yogis prescribed breathing less not more. Vedic science and physiology are broken down and explained in accessible ways. The book presents a new understanding and application of breathing to address a wide range of ailments, including COPD, asthma, hay-fever, autoimmune disorders, anxiety, sleep apnoea and neurological conditions.

Pure Adulteration: Cheating on Nature in the Age of Manufactured Food
In the latter nineteenth century, extraordinary changes in food and agriculture gave rise to new tensions in the ways people understood, obtained, trusted, and ate their food. This was the Era of Adulteration, and its concerns have carried forward to today: How could you tell the food you bought was the food you thought you bought? Could something manufactured still be pure? Is it okay to manipulate nature far enough to produce new foods but not so far that you question its safety and health? How do you know where the line is? And who decides? In Pure Adulteration, Benjamin R. Cohen uses the pure food crusades to provide a captivating window onto the origins of manufactured foods and the perceived problems they wrought. Cohen follows farmers, manufacturers, grocers, hucksters, housewives, politicians, and scientific analysts as they struggled to demarcate and patrol the ever-contingent, always contested border between purity and adulteration, and as, at the end of the nineteenth century, the very notion of a pure food changed. Purity became a scientific rather than environmental concept--one based on analyzing the product instead of the process. In the end, there is (and was) no natural, pre-human distinction between pure and adulterated to simply uncover and enforce; we have to decide. Today's world is different from that of our nineteenth century forebears in many ways, but the challenge of policing the difference between acceptable and unacceptable practices remains central to daily decisions about the foods we eat, how we produce them, and what choices we make when buying them.

The Black Prairie Archives: An Anthology
The Black Prairie Archives: An Anthology recovers a new regional archive of black prairie literature, and includes writing that ranges from work by nineteenth-century black fur traders and pioneers, all of it published here for the first time, to contemporary writing of the twenty-first century. This anthology establishes a new black prairie literary tradition and transforms inherited understandings of what prairie literature looks and sounds like. It collects varied and unique work by writers who were both conscious and unconscious of themselves as black writers or as prairie people. Their letters, recipes, oral literature, autobiographies, rap, and poetry- provide vivid glimpses into the reality of their lived experiences and give meaning to them. The book includes introductory notes for each writer in non-specialist language, and notes to assist readers in their engagement with the literature. This archive and its supporting text offer new scholarly and pedagogical possibilities by expanding the nation's and the region's archives. They enrich our understanding of black Canada by bringing to light the prairies' black histories, cultures, and presences.

Traveling with Sugar: Chronicles of a Global Epidemic
Traveling with Sugar reframes the rising diabetes epidemic as part of a five-hundred-year-old global history of sweetness and power. Amid eerie injuries, changing bodies, amputated limbs, and untimely deaths, many people across the Caribbean and Central America simply call the affliction sugar -or, as some say in Belize, traveling with sugar. A decade in the making, this book unfolds as a series of cronicas-a word meaning both slow-moving story and slow-moving disease. It profiles the careful work of those still fighting it as they grapple with unequal material infrastructures and unsettling dilemmas. Facing a new incarnation of blood sugar, these individuals speak back to science and policy misrecognitions that have prematurely cast their lost limbs and deaths as normal. Their families' arts of maintenance and repair illuminate ongoing struggles to survive and remake larger systems of food, land, technology, and medicine.
