It's All in Your Mouth: Biological Dentistry and the Surprising Impact of Oral Health on Whole Body Wellness
Understanding the critical relationship between your teeth, your microbiome, and natural immunity against chronic disease Our mouths are not just for smiling, our teeth are involved in more than merely chewing, and our tongues do far more than taste and swallow. In fact, the mouth cavity is a critical ecosystem and central to the health of the entire body. This view of dentistry is central to European biological medicine but is considered radical in the United States where conventional dental practices view the mouth as an isolated entity. In It's All in Your Mouth, Dr. Dominik Nischwitz brings this sensible and crucial view of oral health to an American audience. A diseased mouth will lead to a diseased body. In fact, inflammation, chronic fatigue, obesity, heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, and cancer all have roots in the mouth. Using the latest scientific research, Dr. Dominik Nischwitz tells us everything we never knew about our teeth and how we can care for them in a way that nurtures and supports whole body wellness.

Zen Medicine for Mind and Body: Using Zen Wisdom, Shaolin Kung Fu and Traditional Chinese Medicine
A truly remarkable story of Zen medicine and how you can bring its practices into your own life. Author Shi Zxinggui began studying Zen medicine-a combination of meditation, gentle physical activity and medicine-as a child under the tutelage of the Shaolin Temple's Master Dechan. She carried it with her, eventually going on to lecture on the subject in both China and abroad for several decades. When she was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer, Zxinggui returned to the Shaolin Temple, hoping the Zen medicine she'd spent so long teaching others about would help her. After careful nursing and appropriate mind and body exercises, her cancer went into remission. Since her own cancer battle, Zxinggui has helped many other cancer patients, devoting her life to this work. This book, which draws on the author's 20 years as a cancer fighter, 50 years as a doctor and life-long wisdom as a Zen practitioner, provides insight into how readers can implement these strategies, which emphasize daily health care and cultivation of the body and soul, into their own lives-not only to help with physical diseases, but also to ease mental anxieties and inspire others to live a clean, healthy life. Ailments addressed in the book are varied, and include: IBS Lumbar disc herniation Back and leg soreness High blood pressure Asthma And many others

Shinrin Yoku: taking in the forest atmosphere, the medicine of simply being in the forest, forest bathing. From the healing properties of phytoncides (self-protective compounds emitted by plants) to the ways we can benefit from what forest spaces can teach us, Forest Bathing: The Rejuvenating Practice of Shinrin Yoku discusses the history, science and philosophy behind this age-old therapeutic practice. Examples from the ancient Celts to Henry David Thoreau remind us of the ties between humankind and the natural world-ties that have become more and more elusive to Westerners. This book explains the traditional Japanese concepts that help readers understand and share in the benefits of the Japanese approach to forest bathing-a cornerstone of healing and health care in Japan. These concepts include: Yugen: Our living experience of the world around us that is so profound as to be beyond expression Komorebi: The interplay of leaves and sunlight Wabi sabi: Rejoicing in imperfection and impermanence The book goes on to offer guidelines for finding our replenishment in these peaceful, isolated spaces-from turning off the phone (or leaving it at home) to seeking the irregularities in nature, which in turn can make us less critical of ourselves. Finally, it offers tips not only on being fully present and mindful while you're in the forest, but also on how to take that mindfulness home with you-even if that home is the busiest and most crowded of cities.

Hermetic Herbalism: The Art of Extracting Spagyric Essences
A never-before-translated occult classic that brings the science of herbal medicine back to its Hermetic roots * Includes a large collection of recipes for spagyric medicines and quintessences, with detailed step-by-step instructions, adapted from celebrated spagyrists such as Paracelsus, Pseudo-Lull, Philipp Ulstad, and Nicaise Le Fevre * Provides botanical and medicinal classifications of over 600 plant species along with their astral natures, elemental qualities, and planetary and zodiacal signatures * Explores advanced methods and techniques and shares the author's secret formula for a universal circulatum First published in French in 1911, this practical guide to the art of spagyrics begins by outlining the ancient yet often forgotten Hermetic foundations of herbalism. Author Jean Maveric provides botanical and medicinal classifications of over 600 plant species along with an in-depth study of their astral natures, elemental qualities, and planetary and zodiacal signatures as well as practical advice on the appropriate times to harvest plants and administer herbal remedies and quintessences. Reviewing the general principles and procedures of premodern chemistry, Maveric then explores the secret doctrines and operations of the spagyric art. He offers a large collection of recipes for spagyric herbal preparations adapted from celebrated spagyrists such as Paracelsus, Pseudo-Lull, Philipp Ulstad, Jan Baptist van Helmont, Oswald Croll, and Nicaise Le Fevre, providing detailed step-by-step instructions for a veritable pharmacopeia of spagyric extracts, tinctures, elixirs, liquors, oils, unguents, salts, aquae vitae, and quintessences. Maveric also shares his intricate theory of astral medicine and advocates a seasonal Hermetic diet designed to keep the humors of the body in equilibrium and prevent the onset of illness. In the final section of the book, Maveric focuses on the more advanced methods and techniques of Paracelsus, Helmont, and George Starkey, unraveling the mysteries of manufacturing alkalis, alkahests, and menstrua and divulging his own secret formula for a universal circulatum. Available now for the first time in English, this occult classic unveils the art of extracting spagyric essences to a modern audience while also bringing the science of herbal medicine back to its Hermetic roots.

The Body Clock in Traditional Chinese Medicine: Understanding Our Energy Cycles for Health and Healing
A reference guide to understanding the natural rhythm of our organs and learning to support them in a holistic way * Explains the Organ Body Clock from Traditional Chinese Medicine and which organs and meridians are dominant during different hours of the day * Describes exactly what happens inside the body during each organ's active time and shows what we can do to support the organs with plant medicine, homeopathy, our behavior, and simple daily practices * Explores the mental and emotional states each organ is related to and their connections to the teeth, the other organs, and the Five Elements of TCM All of our organs are energetically interconnected. They each have regular rest and active cycles throughout the day, with different organs becoming dominant at different hours. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is known as the Organ Body Clock. In this accessible guide to the body clock in Traditional Chinese Medicine, the author shows how to support the body's natural rhythms of activity, recognize the body's signals of imbalance and find their sources, and achieve healing on the physical and energetic levels. He explains how the body clock can provide deep insight into our physical and energetic health. For example, if we always wake up at a certain time at night, we should look up which organ is associated with that time, which will lead us to discover the part of our body that needs special attention and help. The author explores the 12 major organs of the body, describing their active and rest hours, their function inside the body, the mental and emotional states they are related to, and their connections to the teeth, the other organs, and the Five Elements of TCM. The author describes exactly what happens inside the body during each organ's active time and shows what we can do to support the organs with plant medicine, homeopathy, our behavior, and simple daily practices. By working with the body clock and better understanding our bodies' rhythms, we more easily trace our ailments and conditions to their source for faster relief, sustainable healing, and energetic balance.

The Addiction Spectrum: A Compassionate, Holistic Approach to Recovery
If anyone you know is struggling with addiction-or if you think you might have a problem-you want to read this book. -GARTH STEIN, bestselling author of The Art of Racing in the Rain a proven, comprehensive program that compassionately guides the reader to a place of resolution -DAVID PERLMUTTER, MD, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Grain Brain, and, Brain Maker a massive achievement and a giant step forward for addiction medicine -ANNIE GRACE, author of This Naked Mind Drug overdose is now the leading cause of death for Americans under fifty. Even as opiate addiction skyrockets, more people than ever before are hooked on alcohol, sedatives, cigarettes, and even screens. The face and prevalence of addiction has changed and evolved, but our solutions to addiction are stuck in the past. We've been treating addiction as a black or white issue, a disease you either suffer from or will never suffer from. The problem with this model is that it doesn't account for the incredible forces working against all of us, pushing all of us toward addiction: stress, undernourishment, sleep-deprivation, vitamin D deficiency, and isolation, not to mention a flawed medical system and corrupt pharmaceutical companies doling out prescriptions at every turn. The truth: Addiction is a disease that, like many others, exists on a spectrum. We are more vulnerable to becoming addicted to substances at certain points in our lives and based on the evidence provided in The Addiction Spectrum, most effective at kicking addiction when we take a holistic approach. With the help of the 13-point plan and individual protocols detailed in this book, you have the power to change your destiny. No one understands this more than Dr. Paul Thomas, who recovered from alcohol addiction early in his career and founded one of the most effective rehabilitation centers for teens and young adults in his hometown of Portland, OR. Named one of the top family doctors and one of the top pediatricians in the country, Dr. Paul is also board-certified in both integrative medicine and addiction medicine. This unique combination of specialties is intentional: Dr. Paul has devoted his entire life and career to saving lives. Using the best conventional medicine alongside the new science of alternative health, Dr. Paul has treated thousands of patients with the life-saving solutions provided in The Addiction Spectrum. Addiction is a compendium of often devastating circumstances that have gone unchecked by society for far too long. This book is a positive light and guide to overcoming not only addiction but the challenges and obstacles that affect us all.

This book will be a selection of short, non-fiction stories which demonstrate the remarkable ways in which animals help people with their mental and physical health. The book will be uplifting and inspirational in tone, and will be structured much like the 'Chicken Soup' books. In between each tale there will be educational snippets of information about the species of animal featured in the story. Each of the short stories will be written following a phone interview with the person who the story belongs to. Some examples of uplifting short stories could include visually impaired individuals who have gained some independence in their lives by teaming up with seeing-eye dogs, as well as how one woman who lost her arm learned to ride horses and eventually became a competitive rider. The stories will feature an array of different animals, including more surprising creatures which most people wouldn't regard as therapeutic or beneficial to keep as pets, such as snakes or raccoons. Towards the end of the book, I will also share a never before told story how animals have personally helped me in my life which will be a key selling point of the book as I have a very loyal and engaged audience who not only love my animals, but also enjoy my journey as human who lives and works with animals too. This book aims to warm and inspire the reader with uplifting and emotion provoking stories of how animals and humans benefit and save each other through their unexpected relationships. In between each chapter will be a small compilation of facts about the animal featured in the story to add to the readers learning experience.

The A-to-Z guide to essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, so you can ditch synthetic supplements and promote health naturally with nourishing foods. Vitamins and minerals are the building blocks of good health. But the heavily processed foods that are so common in today's modern diet are stripped of these nutrients, leaving many people nutrient deficient despite meeting (or exceeding) their daily calorie needs. The accepted solution is to take supplements created in a lab, but the dosage and interactions can be confusing, and supplements are loosely regulated and not always foolproof, especially since our bodies are designed to receive nutrients from natural, whole foods. Eat Your Vitamins features fifty key vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients essential to your health. You will find clear definitions of each nutrient along with the role it plays in the body, how it is best consumed and absorbed, recommended daily doses, and detailed lists of foods and natural sources that contain the vitamin along with a recipe for a nutrient-rich meal. Ditch the synthetic supplements and make the right choice about how to properly feed and fuel your body.

Tibetan Medicine and You: A Path to Wellbeing, Better Health, and Joy
All of us want to be happy and avoid suffering. So why are many of us anxious, angry, or depressed? We suffer from pain, hypertension, inflammation, indigestion, insomnia, and addiction. Yet, too often we make choices that undermine us rather than reverse what's wrong. Tibetan medicine, Tibet's ancient, timely science of healing, offers effective tools for transforming suffering into health and happiness. Tibetan medicine teaches that the purpose of life is to be happy, and that after our basic needs are met, happiness results primarily from our own thinking. When challenges arise, we choose how to interpret them. We can wallow in negativity and get sick - or even sicker - in mind and body. Or we can decide to create health and happiness. Making mindful, healthy choices won't solve every problem but will produce better results than poor or thoughtless decisions do. At least, we won't make things worse! This book explains how to use the concepts of Tibetan medicine for self-care and integrative care alongside Western medical interventions. By actively engaging in self-care, we make conscious, informed decisions to preserve and improve health and happiness. By (Both sentences begin with By. One sentence needs rewriting.) incorporating Tibetan medicine into our Western medical care, we include methods for preventing disease and mental distress, improving overall health outcomes, and preparing for a more peaceful death. Colour, Healing and the Human Soul: Understanding colours and using them for health and therapy
In a delightful study - originally comprising two separate booklets - the accomplished artist and teacher Gladys Mayer explains that colour is nothing other than the very substance of the soul. Just as the body is made up of mineral, water, air and warmth, so the soul is made up of colour. This is revealed in the emotions of sadness and joy and the many shades in between, as expressed in human language - for example: `seeing red', `rose-coloured spectacles' and `jaundiced view'. Mayer discusses the basis of colour theory and its methodology, and the importance of colour for everyday life and health. It is as fundamental to the soul as air is to the body. By increasing our awareness of the spiritual laws of colour, we can acquire a balanced and enriched life of soul. Thus, colour can become a healing force in life, enabling us to tackle the deadening, grey aspects of our mechanised civilisation. Based on the work of Rudolf Steiner, which she studied intensively for many years, Mayer offers an approach to colour that is of value to painters and artists, as well as to those interested in psychology, health and healing, spirituality and personal development.

Do You Really Need Spine Surgery?: Take Control with a Spine Surgeon's Advice
Deciding whether to undergo spine surgery is one of the most important choices you will ever make. Author and spine surgeon Dr. David Hanscom has observed that in this era of corporate medicine, surgical decisions are often made quickly without a complete evaluation or attempt at non-surgical rehabilitation before proceeding. The result? The majority of spine operations are unnecessary and many surgeries are performed on spines with normal, age-related conditions. When performed for a specific anatomical problem with matching symptoms, the outcomes are consistently satisfying. Conversely, when surgery is conducted to address pain without a clear source, the consequences can be unpredictable, with a high percent of patients faring poorly or becoming much worse (catastrophic). A failed spinal surgery can virtually destroy one's life. Additionally, when a patient's nervous system is fired up from stress, results are often poor. A common cry from patients is, If I only knew how badly this could turn out, I would have never had this surgery. The depth of frustration at making the wrong decision is beyond words because there is no turning back. If you are facing a decision about spine surgery, Do You Really Need Spine Surgery? provides you and your medical providers important information to help make the best choice. All relevant variables are addressed and organized into a treatment grid. With this grid, you and your health care team can determine the most effective approach and course of action, with full consideration to the potential downside of a failed spinal surgery. Do You Really Need Spine Surgery? gives back control of the surgical decision to you, the patient. Take it!!

Restoring Prana: A Therapeutic Guide to Pranayama and Healing Through the Breath for Yoga Therapists, Yoga Teachers, and Healthcare Practitioners
One of the most common issues clients face is lack of energy, vitality or prana and this book presents a simple yet revolutionary breathing approach to restore balance. Grounded in the yogic teachings, this text introduces the Buteyko breathing method as a more contemporary way of understanding the original intention of pranayama. Through extensive research, Robin Rothenberg establishes that as with Dr. Buteyko's breath retraining technique, the ancient yogis prescribed breathing less not more. Vedic science and physiology are broken down and explained in accessible ways. The book presents a new understanding and application of breathing to address a wide range of ailments, including COPD, asthma, hay-fever, autoimmune disorders, anxiety, sleep apnoea and neurological conditions.
