The Wedding of Bandaged Eyes: Featuring a Brisk Danse Macabre
A red carpet leads onto the mountain path. Xanthe, the bride, will walk along it with Julia, her bridesmaid, and Cassandra her flower-girl and daughter. Round the mountain from the East the women's party will go, eager with enjoyment. A physical warm-up before they reach the place of vows. George the bridegroom, with his best-man Mickey and his boy Jake, will walk round the mountain from the West. They too look forward to the entertainment along the way. At noon they should meet and exchange rings, facing due north. Then they must take a leap of faith. But on the way, how will each one react to the obstacles that appear in their paths? In the luxury of the cave, or drenched by the storm, or lost in the fog, will George freeze, will the women be ashamed of their nudity? And how will they manage the Emperor and the snake, the infant, the whores and soldiers, and the warnings? Pashmina scarves can make sensual blindfolds. Will the wedding take place or will there be nothing seen to remember?
