I was taking him pond fishing when he was still in a stroller. With most of these recipes, a memory from the past flashed into my mind while I was typing it. The bringing forth of this book has served as a wonderful memory trip for me. While sorting through them I found myself thinking ... "This is a wonderful halibut recipe from a Fourth of July picnic in Homer, Alaska. And, a cerviche recipe from a political function in Homer, Alaska. These are only a couple of the thoughts. It seems like each one has had it's own little memory. At times reminiscing took more time than inputting. Just where does a person draw a line on contents of a recipe book? There's over fifty (almost sixty) years of collecting, compiling, formatting, changing the format over and over and trying to get them just like I want them. The three-ring binders here in my tiny office space are getting fewer and fewer as each book is in print. I would like to think that once these are completed that this will all, finally, come to an end. But, knowing me, it's going to continue until I can no longer sit here and punch keys, entering yet another irresistible recipe. I suppose, in a way, it's my bucket list. Since these also look interesting, Trifle should be served in a glass bowl so that the effect can be seen to full advantage. As an alternative serve it in individual glass dishes. Trifles can be very easy and quick to prepare or very intricate, taking hours and hours, even days to prepare. I've tried to include recipes for all levels of cooking skills. But please don't be afraid to attempt any of the recipes. Get creative and put together your own combination of your favorite fruits, cakes and custards. I think you'll find most trifle recipes surprisingly easy and the big payoff is the appearance of the finished Trifle, a dessert anyone will be proud to present to your guests and family. Be sure to make it a bit in advance of serving so that the liqueurs or fruit juices have enough time to seep into the cake. For the most part, I like to prepare them the day before I plan on serving it so the flavors can blend.
