Energy Effectiveness: Strategic Objectives, Energy and Water at the Heart of Enterprise
This book describes practical ways to understand energy and water use in organizations and then manage or control that use, thereby reducing risk and cost. The author presents a strategic framework to focus on the types of questions that should be addressed internally, Including evaluation of potential projects, planning and implementing energy projects, and evaluating results. The premise is that no modern organization can exist without energy, despite the fact that energy is also one of the mandatory inputs that receives little to no attention in most organizations. This work highlights methodologies and projects that illuminate ways in which energy management is central to an organization's success, considering in each case the four main determinants of energy use: People, Buildings, Equipment /Processes, and the Environment. The book constitutes a complete energy savings resource for business owners, middle managers, and building and energy managers, providing options, free tools, and flexible project templates.

Law and Regulation of Air Cargo
This book explores the legal and regulatory aspects of the complex air cargo sector, discussing in detail the general principles of the carriage of air cargo; artificial intelligence and air cargo; facilitation; carriage of hazardous goods; human remains; and animals, as well as cargo security; price fixing and anti competitive conduct in air cargo operations; liability issues; the air cargo supply chain and contract of carriage. It also discusses related achievements of the International Civil Aviation Organization; the International Air Transport Association and Airports Council International. The value of goods carried by airlines represents 7.4% of the global Gross Domestic Product. While cargo carried by air accounts for less than 1% of global cargo carriage, airlines carry 35% of the value of world trade, making this industry highly valuable and efficient, and the most reliable way to transport goods throughout the world. On average, airlines transport 52 million metric tons of goods per annum, worth an equivalent of $6.8 trillion, i.e. $18.6 billion worth of goods daily.

Managing Millennials: The Ultimate Handbook for Productivity, Profitability, and Professionalism
The Millennial workforce has different goals and objectives than previous generations and possesses a unique perspective that is unlike any other employee group. Nevertheless, instead of incorporating a management style that is conducive to getting the best out of Millennials, business leaders incorrectly attempt to manage this subset of the workforce the same way they manage employees from previous generations. This must change! Archaic methods of management do not deliver success with a new breed of employee. Instead, the outdated model leaves Millennials uninspired and lacking the desire to produce results. To get the best out of Millennials, it is imperative for leaders to modify their current management style. With over 55 million Millennials working in the United States, the largest demographic in the workplace, it is critical that they are managed effectively if companies are going to succeed. Managing Millennials: The Ultimate Handbook for Productivity, Profitability, and Professionalism delivers a profound understanding of what motivates Millennials, generates increased awareness of the different ideologies and preferences each generation in the workplace values, and most importantly, provides specific actions you can use to understand and motivate Millennials and transform your organization.

An Introduction to Health Information Technology in LTPAC Settings
A multiplicity of factors converging together suggest the long term/post-acute care (LTPAC) provider community (e.g. nursing homes, behavioral health facilities, home health agencies, etc.) will accelerate in importance within the healthcare ecosystem during the next few years. The challenge for many LTPAC providers in this emerging environment will be to advance their clinical health information technologies (health IT) capabilities in order to play with other providers in the healthcare sandbox. This book is designed to assist LTPAC leaders in identifying and exploring the array of critical issues one needs to consider in order to operate within an advanced clinical health IT ecosystem. This book surveys key issues surrounding the use of clinical health IT in LTPAC settings, to include providing readers with a suggested strategic plan and roadmap for selecting and installing digital health technologies in LTPAC organizations. Though the focus of the book primarily centers on the U.S. LTPAC provider's experience, the authors also spend time addressing global and future LTPAC considerations.

Organizing for the Digital World: IT for Individuals, Communities and Societies
This book argues that organizing is a broader term than managing, as it entails understanding how people and machines interact with each other; how resources, data, goods are exchanged in complex and intertwined value chains; and how lines of action and activities can be articulated using flexible protocols and often ad-hoc processes in situated practices of use and production. The book presents a collection of research papers shedding new light on these phenomena and related practices from both academic and professional perspectives. Given the plurality of views that it offers, the book makes a relevant contribution to the understanding and appreciation of the complexity of the digital world at various levels of granularity. It focuses on how individuals, communities and the coopetitive societies of our new, global and hyperconnected world produce value and pursue their objectives and ideals in mutually dependent ways. The content of the book is based on a selection of the best papers - original double-blind peer-reviewed contributions - presented at the annual conference of the Italian chapter of the AIS, which was held in Milan, Italy in October 2017.

Sustainable Smart Cities: Creating Spaces for Technological, Social and Business Development
This volume provides the most current research on smart cities. Specifically, it focuses on the economic development and sustainability of smart cities and examines how to transform older industrial cities into sustainable smart cities. It aims to identify the role of the following elements in the creation and management of smart cities:* Citizen participation and empowerment * Value creation mechanisms * Public administration* Quality of life and sustainability* Democracy* ICT* Private initiatives and entrepreneurship Regardless of their size, all cities are ultimately agglomerations of people and institutions. Agglomeration economies make it possible to attain minimum efficiencies of scale in the organization and delivery of services. However, the economic benefits do not constitute the main advantage of a city. A city's status rests on three dimensions: (1) political impetus, which is the result of citizens' participation and the public administration's agenda; (2) applications derived from technological advances (especially in ICT); and (3) cooperation between public and private initiatives in business development and entrepreneurship. These three dimensions determine which resources are necessary to create smart cities. But a smart city, ideal in the way it channels and resolves technological, social and economic-growth issues, requires many additional elements to function at a high-performance level, such as culture (an environment that empowers and engages citizens) and physical infrastructure designed to foster competition and collaboration, encourage new ideas and actions, and set the stage for new business creation. Featuring contributions with models, tools and cases from around the world, this book will be a valuable resource for researchers, students, academics, professionals and policymakers interested in smart cities.

Agile Strategy Management in the Digital Age: How Dynamic Balanced Scorecards Transform Decision Making, Speed and Effectiveness
In a world of rapid and unpredictable change, the problem with strategic planning is that if you follow your plan through to the end, you will get exactly what you used to want. What you need is a framework for planning and implementing a strategy that is agile enough to adapt to a dynamic environment but focused enough to deliver. That framework is the Dynamic Balanced Scorecard. The original Balanced Scorecard system has proven the most popular, successful and enduring framework for strategy execution over the last 25 years. Comprising a Strategy Map and a scorecard of KPIs, targets and initiatives, the framework helped organizations distil a strategy into actionable components and measure progress towards a strategic vision, while also implementing and monitoring the actions that drove change. However, for all its success, the Balanced Scorecard system now needs to evolve for the digital age. Until now, building the system, rolling it out enterprise-wide and adapting it to external changes has been a lengthy process. While the fundamental principles of the system are still sound and relevant, it needs to become nimbler and more responsive. The book provides a step-by-step guide to agile strategy management: from formulation to implementation to learning and adapting. For each of the steps, the book explains how Dynamic Balanced Scorecards, fit for the digital age, are built and deployed.

Logistics, Supply Chain and Financial Predictive Analytics: Theory and Practices
This book addresses a broad range of problems commonly encountered in the fields of financial analysis, logistics and supply chain management, such as the use of big data analytics in the banking sector. Divided into twenty chapters, some of the contemporary topics discussed in the book are co-operative/non-cooperative supply chain models for imperfect quality items with trade-credit financing; a non-dominated sorting water cycle algorithm for the cardinality constrained portfolio problem; and determining initial, basic and feasible solutions for transportation problems by means of the supply demand reparation method and continuous allocation method. In addition, the book delves into a comparison study on exponential smoothing and the Arima model for fuel prices; optimal policy for Weibull distributed deteriorating items varying with ramp type demand rate and shortages; an inventory model with shortages and deterioration for three different demand rates; outlier labeling methods for medical data; a garbage disposal plant as a validated model of a fault-tolerant system; and the design of a least cost ration formulation application for cattle ; a preservation technology model for deteriorating items with advertisement dependent demand and trade credit; a time series model for stock price forecasting in India; and asset pricing using capital market curves. The book offers a valuable asset for all researchers and industry practitioners working in these areas, giving them a feel for the latest developments and encouraging them to pursue further research in this direction.

Inventory Management in Multi-Echelon Networks: On the Optimization of Reorder Points
Inventory Management in Multi-Echelon Networks presents methods to plan inventory in distribution networks. By holistically looking at the supply chain, it shows how safety stocks across all echelons can be optimized if inventory of all levels is taken into consideration. The gap between the existence of advanced inventory planning methods and their low penetration in the industry was the motivation for this book. Christopher Grob develops essential algorithms that companies can use for network inventory planning and highlights achievable implementation benefits. The work of the author was inspired by the needs of an after sales supply chain of a large automotive company. This company supplies customers all over the world with spare parts and operates a distribution network with more than 100 warehouses. This supply chain faces two particular challenges: demand is highly uncertain and customers expect a high service level. About the Author Christopher Grob works in after sales supply chain management at a major German automotive company. He is responsible for the functional development of inventory planning systems for the spare parts business. He is an expert in the field of inventory management.

China: Innovative Green Development
This book is particularly concerned with China's path to green development and how it can be understood, exploring questions such as how the goal of Chinese-led green development can be achieved. The book provides systematic explanations of the theory of green development, exploring its background, its theoretical basis, the areas it covers, the stages it encompasses and the constraining and favorable factors involved. We see how humankind is at a period of transition from the traditional black industrial civilization to a modern green ecological civilization. The author gives a profound critique of the traditional Western model of development, provides a comprehensive analysis of the crisis and the opportunities presented by green development and depicts the grand goal of green modernization in a creative, bold, forward-looking manner. A three-step strategy to design and promote green development is proposed. Readers will discover why China must become an innovator, practitioner, and leader of green development, and how green planning is an important means to establish green development. The book explores how local governments can become green innovation practitioners, and how enterprises can become the main arena of green development. This book is a creative and innovative work that will appeal to scholars interested in the long-term development of humankind in general and China in particular. It also serves well as a green development textbook, presenting related scientific knowledge and important information for decision-making in a concise, easy-to-understand form.

Innovations Lead to Economic Crises: Explaining the Bubble Economy
This book examines the link between innovation and economic crises through a systemic philosophy of economic history. Taking the end of the Roman Empire as its starting point, the author guides readers through six economic crises that have occurred up to the present day and uncovers how these may have been triggered by a number of political, economic and technological innovations. The author presents analyses on the Dutch tulip bubble of 1637, the Mississippi bubble in eighteenth-century France, the development of the first limited liability company and the world's first stock exchange before going on to discuss the latest economic crisis and its links with globalisation and social connectivity following the technological advancement of the internet. The author concludes by explaining how we can use knowledge of the links between innovation and crises to frame a vital new model for policy makers and political leaders. The result is a fascinating insight into the cause of economic crises which will be of particular interest to students and researchers of economic history, financial crises, innovation and political science.

Supervisory Control of Discrete-Event Systems
This book shows how supervisory control theory (SCT) supports the formulation of various control problems of standard types, like the synthesis of controlled dynamic invariants by state feedback, and the resolution of such problems in terms of naturally definable control-theoretic concepts and properties, like reachability, controllability and observability. It exploits a simple, abstract model of controlled discrete-event systems (DES) that has proved to be tractable, appealing to control specialists, and expressive of a range of control-theoretic ideas. It allows readers to choose between automaton-based and dually language-based forms of SCT, depending on whether their preference is for an internal-structural or external-behavioral description of the problem. The monograph begins with two chapters on algebraic and linguistic preliminaries and the fundamental concepts and results of SCT are introduced. To handle complexity caused by system scale, architectural approaches-the horizontal modularity of decentralized and distributed supervision and the vertical modularity of hierarchical supervision-are introduced. Supervisory control under partial observation and state-based supervisory control are also addressed; in the latter, a vector DES model that exploits internal regularity of algebraic structure is proposed. Finally SCT is generalized to deal with timed DES by incorporating temporal features in addition to logical ones. Researchers and graduate students working with the control of discrete-event systems or who are interested in the development of supervisory control methods will find this book an invaluable aid in their studies. The text will also be of assistance to researchers in manufacturing, logistics, communications and transportation, areas which provide plentiful examples of the class of systems being discussed.
