The Year of Less: How I Stopped Shopping, Gave Away My Belongings and Discovered Life Is Worth More Than Anything You Can Buy in a Store
In her late twenties, Cait Flanders found herself stuck in the consumerism cycle that grips so many of us: earn more, buy more, want more, rinse, repeat. Even after she worked her way out of nearly $30,000 of consumer debt, her old habits took hold again. When she realised that nothing she was doing or buying was making her happy, she decided to set herself a challenge: she would not shop for an entire year. The Year of Less documents Cait's life for twelve months during which she bought only consumables: groceries, toiletries, petrol for her car. Along the way, she challenged herself to consume less of many other things besides shopping. She decluttered her flat and got rid of 70 percent of her belongings; learned how to fix things rather than throw them away; researched the zero waste movement; and completed a television ban. At every stage, she learned that the less she consumed, the more fulfilled she felt. The challenge became a lifeline when, in the course of the year, Cait found herself in situations that turned her life upside down. In the face of hardship, she realised why she had always turned to shopping, alcohol and food - and what it had cost her. Unable to reach for any of her usual vices, she changed habits she'd spent years perfecting and discovered what truly mattered to her. Blending Cait's compelling story with inspiring insight and practical guidance, The Year of Less will leave you questioning what you're holding on to in your own life - and, quite possibly, lead you to find your own path of less.

Kiyosaki expands on his belief that the school system was created to churn out 'Es' / Employees...those A Students who read well, memorize well and test well...and not the creative thinkers, visionaries and dreamers -entrepreneurs-in-the-making...those C Students who grow up to be the innovators and creators of new ideas, businesses, applications and products. The book urges parents not to be obsessed with their kids' letter grades ( good grades might only mean they or the student themselves were successful in jamming a square peg into a round hole...) and focus, instead, on concepts, ideas, and helping their child find their true genius, their special gift. The path they can pursue with a love and true passion. Robert showcases success stories of C Students who grew up to be phenomenal successes - and HIRED those A Students (attorneys, accountants, and other school-smart specialists) to work in their businesses...while the more average students, B Students, often find themselves in government-type jobs...Not surprisingly, Kiyosaki will coin his own definitions of what A, B, and C stand for as he gives parents and their children bits of wisdom as well as insights and tools for navigating an ever-changing world. ..an Information Age world where the ability to change and adapt, understand relationships, and anticipate the future will shape their lives.

The Opposite Of Spoiled: Raising Kids Who Are Grounded, Generous, And Smart About Money
In the spirit of Wendy Mogel's The Blessing of a Skinned Knee and Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman's Nurture Shock, New York Times Your Money columnist Ron Lieber delivers a taboo-shattering manifesto that explains how talking openly to children about money can help parents raise modest, patient, grounded young adults who are financially wise beyond their years. For Ron Lieber, a personal finance columnist and father, good parenting means talking about money with our kids. Children are hyper-aware of money, and they have scores of questions about its nuances. But when parents shy away from the topic, they lose a tremendous opportunity-not just to model the basic financial behaviors that are increasingly important for young adults but also to imprint lessons about what the family truly values. Written in a warm, accessible voice, grounded in real-world experience and stories from families with a range of incomes, The Opposite of Spoiled is both a practical guidebook and a values-based philosophy. The foundation of the book is a detailed blueprint for the best ways to handle the basics: the tooth fairy, allowance, chores, charity, saving, birthdays, holidays, cell phones, checking accounts, clothing, cars, part-time jobs, and college tuition. It identifies a set of traits and virtues that embody the opposite of spoiled, and shares how to embrace the topic of money to help parents raise kids who are more generous and less materialistic. But The Opposite of Spoiled is also a promise to our kids that we will make them better with money than we are. It is for all of the parents who know that honest conversations about money with their curious children can help them become more patient and prudent, but who don't know how and when to start.

Second Chance: for Your Money, Your Life and Our World
Few would argue with the fact that, on many fronts, we are a world in crisis. And there are two sides to every crisis, be it a leadership crisis, an economic crisis, an education crisis or a moral crisis. The two side to crisis are danger and opportunity. Robert Kiyosaki's new book, Second Chance...for Your Money and Your Life, uses the lessons from the past and a brutal assessment of the present to prepare readers to see----and seize----the future. If readers can train their minds to see what their eyes cannot, in a world that is becoming increasingly more 'invisible' and moving at a high rate of speed, they can have a second chance at creating the life they've always wanted. The global problems we face cannot be solved by the same minds and people who created them and today's world demands the ability to see the future and prepare for what lies ahead...prepare for the opportunities as well as the challenges. Like it or not, we are all involved in the greatest evolutionary event in human history. The Industrial Age is over and the Information Age continues to accelerate. The visible agents of change have become invisible...and harder to see. And the future belongs to those who can train their minds, use the past to see the future, and take the steps to create the positive change they want to see in their lives. Second Chance is a guide to understanding how the past will shape the future and how you can use Information Age tools and insights to create a fresh start. This book is a guide to facing head-on the dangers of the crises around us--and steps and tips for seizing the opportunities they present.

Unfair Advantage: The Power of Financial Education
On the heels of his 2010 New York Times bestseller Conspiracy of the Rich, Robert Kiyosaki takes a new and hard-hitting look at the factors that impact people from all walks of life as they struggle to cope with change and challenges that impact their financial world. In Unfair Advantage -- The Power of Financial Education Robert underscores his messages and challenges readers to change their context and act in a new way. Readers are advised to stop blindly accepting that they are 'disadvantaged' people with limited options. They are encouraged to act beyond their concept of limited options and challenge the preconception that they will struggle financially all of their lives. Robert's fresh approach to his time-tested messages includes clear, actionable steps that any individual or family can take, starting with education. Education becomes applied knowledge, a powerful tactic with measurable results. In true Rich Dad style, readers will be challenged to understand two points of view, and experience how financial knowledge is their unfair advantage. Why do the rich get richer even in a financial crisis? In his new book, An Unfair Advantage, Robert confirms his message and challenges readers to change their context and act in a new way. Readers are advised to stop blindly accepting that they are 'disadvantaged' people with limited options and challenge the notion that they will struggle, financially, all their lives. What does school teach you about money? In most cases, the answer is Not much. If there is any financial education, the courses are taught by financial planners and bankers...the agents of Wall Street and the big banks, the very people that caused and profited from the financial crisis. This book is about real financial education. This book is about how debt and taxes make the rich richer ... and why debt and taxes makes the poor and middle class struggle. This book explains why the rich get richer, paying less in taxes, while the middle class shrinks -- with many losing jobs, homes, and retirement -- and paying more in taxes. This book is about the five unfair advantages a real financial education offers. The Unfair Advantage of Knowledge The Unfair Advantage of Taxes The Unfair Advantage of Debt The Unfair Advantage of Risk The Unfair Advantage of Compensation These five unfair advantages are the outcomes of real financial education.

Rich Dad's Conspiracy of the Rich: The 8 New Rules of Money
In Rich Dad's Conspiracy of the Rich, Robert Kiyosaki explores why many people are waiting for the political and financial systems of the world to change. He shares his opinion that it's easier to change yourself than to wait for our leaders and systems to change. Is it time for you to take control of your money and your financial future? Is it time to find out what those who control the financial world don't want you to know? Do you want complex and confusing financial concepts to be made simple? If you answered 'yes' to these questions, then this book is for you. The first new rule of money is Money is knowledge. Robert Kiyosaki wrote this book for those who want to increase their financial knowledge and take control of their lives. According to Kiyosaki we cannot see the world of the future with our eyes. The world of the future is invisible, and we have to see it with our minds. Kiyosaki sees a new economy and new definitions of wealth. He believes that there will be new millionaires and billionaires. Money will be made at ultrahigh speed. The question is: Will you be among the new rich, or the new poor? The old economy, the economy as we knew it, is not coming back. A new economy is being born, an economy that will be led by kids born after 1990, young people who only know the invisible, high-speed world of the future.

The Geometry of Wealth: How to shape a life of money and meaning
How does money figure into a happy life? In The Geometry of Wealth, behavioral finance expert Brian Portnoy delivers an inspired answer, building on the critical distinction between being rich and being wealthy. While one is an unsatisfying treadmill, the other is the ability to underwrite a meaningful life, however one chooses to define that. Truly viewed, wealth is funded contentment. At the heart of this groundbreaking perspective, Portnoy takes readers on a journey toward wealth, informed by disciplines ranging from ancient history to modern neuroscience. He contends that tackling the big questions about a joyful life and tending to financial decisions are complementary, not separate, tasks. These big questions include: - How is the human brain wired for two distinct experiences of happiness? And why can money buy one but not the other? - What are the touchstones of a meaningful life, and are they affordable? - Why is market savvy among the least important sources of wealth but self-awareness is among the most? - How does one strike a balance between striving for more while being content with enough? This journey memorably contours along three basic shapes: A circle, triangle and square help us to visualize how we adapt to evolving circumstances, set clear priorities, and find empowerment in simplicity. In this accessible and entertaining book, Portnoy reveals that true wealth is achievable for many - including those who despair it is out of reach - but only in the context of a life in which purpose and practice are thoughtfully calibrated.

The Millionaire Next Door: The Surprising Secrets of America's Wealthy
Why aren't I as wealthy as I should be? Many people ask this question of themselves all the time. Often they are hard-working, well educated middle- to high-income people. Why, then, are so few affluent. For nearly two decades the answer has been found in the bestselling The Millionaire Next Door: The Surprising Secrets of America's Wealthy, reissued with a new foreword for the twenty-first century. According to the authors, most people have it all wrong about how you become wealthy in America. Wealth in America is more often the result of hard work, diligent savings, and living below your means than it is about inheritance, advance degrees, and even intelligence. The Millionaire Next Door identifies seven common traits that show up again and again among those who have accumulated wealth. In fact, you will learn that the flashy millionaires glamorized in the media represent only a tiny minority of America's rich. Most of the truly wealthy in this country don't live in Beverly Hills or on Park Avenue-they live next door.

Public-Sector Wage Premium in Poland
This book assesses the size, structure and evolution of the public-private wage gap in Poland - a country frequently regarded as an example of a successful transition from a centrally planned economy to a market economy. The author extensively elaborates on the issue of the selection of employment, and reviews the available studies concerning the public-private wage gap in developed and developing countries, with a particular attention to the evolution of methodology. Furthermore, the author examines recent empirical studies on the public-sector wage premium. Contrary to former research, they have provided positive estimates of the average public-sector wage premium, with significant differences in terms of employee characteristics and local labour market conditions.

More Than Just Making it: Hope for the Heart of the Financially Frustrated
When you're trapped in a cycle of financial frustration, and you feel like you've tried everything only to end up with more month than money yet again, More Than Just Making It is your promise and pathway to thriving again. Take it from someone who's been there. Erin Odom grew up in the private schools and neatly manicured lawns of Upper Middle Class America, but was thrown into low-income living during the economic crash. She was a stay-at-home-mom, her husband was supporting the family on a teacher's salary, and despite the fact that they had no debt to their name, they were scrambling to make ends meet. Suddenly Erin found herself standing in line for food stamps, turning down play dates because she couldn't afford the gas, and ultimately walking into bankruptcy court in the eighth month of her third pregnancy. More Than Just Making It tells the story of their breaking point, as well as the triumph of their comeback. It took hard work, creativity, and faith in God's provision to reset their bank account as well as their hearts, but ultimately they found a new way to thrive and freedom from financial anxiety. You can do the same. Learn how Erin and her family saved enough money to put $30,000 down on a home, buy a minivan in cash, and begin sending their daughter to private Christian school. More Than Just Making It will encourage readers to rise above their circumstances, empower them with money-saving tips, and reimagine the good life as God designed it outside the myth of the American Dream.

Social capital, migration, ethnic diversity and economic performance: Multidisciplinary evidence from South-East Europe
This interdisciplinary book brings an empirical evidence that social capital is an important building block in the reintegration processes, migration challenges and economic dynamism of the SEE communities. Such a conclusion opposes the common belief that (re)establishing social relations in a post-ethnic conflict environment is difficult, or sometimes even impossible. These are indeed societies where trust in people and institutions remains low, but it is often replaced with other forms of social capital emerging on a daily basis, within and between different population strata, either formally but often informally. Most people who know the region are aware that formal and state institutions in South-East Europe enjoy very low levels of trust. Nearly everybody loves to point to ethnicity as the causal factor behind every difficulty. The authors of this groundbreaking study explore two basic questions: how do people meet their needs and the needs of others when official institutions do not function? And how do members of different ethnic groups experience the role of others and cross symbolic boundaries? The answers, constructed out of empirical evidence using a variety of methods, point to the crucial importance of social capital as an everyday resource, and to the essential role of ethnic, national, and religious diversity in enhancing people's life chances in an unstable environment. Eric Gordy, Professor of Cultural and Political Sociology, University College London Since Mark Granovetter many of us know that both over-socialised (macro) level, and under-socialised (narrowly individualist) representations of social world may lead to counter-effective policies. We need to focus on the meso level, where social cooperation is the most real and the most productive. That leads us to the concept of social capital. This is something the authors of this book understand very well. Moreover, applying it, they are able to shed light on human behaviour in the context of the two key phenomena of present day Europe: migration and capacity for self-help during the crises. Great research questions and contribution. Tomasz Mickiewicz, Professor at Aston University and Honorary Research Fellow at University College London
