Marcel Meili, Markus Peter Architects: Buildings and Projects 1985-2008
Marcel Meili and Markus Peter founded their architectural office in Zurich, Switzerland, twenty years ago, and have recently opened a subsidiary in Munich, Germany. Meili Peter develop projects of all scales and in many different fields and with a vast variety of programmes, rather than specialising on certain types of buildings and tasks. Urban planning and complex constructive solutions have become an emphasis of their work, though. This first comprehensive monograph on Meili Peter's work presents their buildings as well as unrealised projects, concepts and ideas. The richly illustrated and elaborately designed book combines texts, images, plans and drawings, forming a compendium of Meili Peter's architectural practice. It also includes external views on their work with essays by renowned international fellow architects, such as Adolf Krischanitz and Hermann Czech (Austria), Josep Lluis Mateo (Spain), the acclaimed architect and civil engineer Jurg Conzett and by the well known architectural photographer Heinrich Helfenstein (Switzerland). Important built projects include: Platform roof-extension, central railway station, Zurich, Switzerland; Swiss College of Timber Industry (HF Wood, Berne University of Applied Sciences) Biel/Bienne, Switzerland; Swiss Re's Center for Global Dialogue, Ruschlikon near Zurich, Switzerland; Park Hyatt hotel complex, Zurich, Switzerland; Helvetia Patria insurance headquarters, Milan, Italy; Urban planning and residential buildings at Billancourt, Paris, France; and, Masterplan and headquarters for Suddeutscher Verlag, Munich, Germany.

Trutg Dil Flem: Seven Bridges by Jurg Conzett
The renowned Swiss structural engineer Jurg Conzett has designed a unique mountain trail in the Swiss Canton of Grisons, the Trutg dil Flem (Trail of Flims). Set in spectacular landscape above the well-known resort Flims-Laax-Falera, it leads over seven newly constructed bridges crossing the stream running from a nearby mountain pass down to the village. Each bridge represents a different type of construction and building method, tailored to the specific features of their particular location. Wilfried Dechau is an architectural journalist and has for many years been chief editor of one of Germany's foremost professional architecture and construction magazines. He is also a keen and accomplished photographer, whose series on the Storebalt suspension bridge in Denmark won the 2001 Kodak photo calendar award. He has recently turned more to documenting the process of building rather than the finished work. Dechau's atmospheric images of the Trutg dil Flem and Conzett's seven bridges show the interaction of landscape and engineering work. Reproductions of Conzett's original drawings for the bridges and short essays on the project and its realisation complement the striking photographs.

Landscape and Structures: A Personal Inventory of Jurg Conzett
'Landscape and Structures' presents civil engineering structures which stand out by virtue of their special relationship with the Swiss landscape, such as bridges, footbridges, tunnels, retaining walls, passageways etc., i.e. structures serving traffic routes. Jurg Conzett, internationally renowned structural engineer, has curated the exhibition at the Swiss pavilion within the 12th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in autumn 2010. Together with photographer Martin Linsi he has focused his interest on works of architectural merit that take account not just of engineering and efficiency, but also of the responses they evoke in the individuals using or looking at them. The book documents also the interplay between the cultural heritage movement and questions of the design of engineering works and highlights the Swiss tradition of relying on local materials and craftsmanship. Conzett's aim is to illustrate the engineer's view on works that have great meaning for him, personally and professionally.
