Les microorganismes, en particulier Enterobacter sakazakii, dans les preparations en poudre pour nourrissons deviennent un nouveau probleme de sante publique. Cette question a ete portee recemment a l'attention du Codex Alimentarius qui a decide de reviser les recommandations de son Code d'usages international en matiere d'hygiene pour les aliments destines aux nourrissons et aux enfants en bas age afin de traiter le probleme des germes pathogenes qui pourraient contaminer les preparations pour nourrissons. La FAO et l'OMS ont convoque une reunion d'experts charges de fournir des avis scientifiques dans le but de faciliter le processus de revision. Les conclusions de ces travaux sont resumees ici. E. sakazakii est une cause de maladie dans tous les groupes d'age. Les statistiques indiquent que les nourrissons, en particulier les prematures, ceux qui souffrent d'insuffisance ponderale ou d'immunodepression, sont plus menaces. Les preparations en poudre pour nourrissons ne sont pas steriles et peuvent parfois contenir des germes pathogenes meme lorsqu'elles sont conformes aux normes du Codex en vigueur. Le present rapport examine toute une serie de strategies de controle durant la fabrication et l'utilisation de ces preparations, qui pourraient etre appliquees pour reduire les risques.

Esta destinado fundamentalmente a los responsables de la toma de decisiones dentro de los organismos de ordenacion pesquera y otros grupos interesados, incluidas las organizaciones de pescadores y las organizaciones no gubernamentales competentes. En la primera parte, se resumen las recomendaciones. En la segunda, se examinan las cuestiones normativas y tecnicas. Despues de definir los grandes conceptos, en el informe se examinan el origen, consecuencias y dinamica del desarrollo excesivo de la capacidad pesquera. Se analizan los problemas asociados con el acceso libre y gratuito, junto con las cuestiones que se plantean al tratar de ordenar las pesquerias en el marco de esos regimenes. Asimismo, se presentan las repercusiones normativas y los obstaculos correspondientes. Se examinan tambien las posibles medidas de ordenacion, por ejemplo, los incentivos y desincentivos economicos, los contingentes individuales, la limitacion del acceso y la ordenacion compartida. Estas pautas se han preparado en apoyo de la aplicacion del Codigo de conducta para la pesca responsable, particularmente con respecto a la necesidad de responsabilidades en el sector postcaptura de la industria de los productos pesqueros. La industria que produce pescado para consumo humano tiene tres areas importantes de responsabilidad: garantizar que los productos sean inocuos para el consumidor y tengan la calidad y el valor nutricional que se esperan de ellos; asegurar que los recursos no sean mal aprovechados; y garantizar que los efectos negativos para el medio ambiente sean minimos. Ademas, la industria debe asegurar que los millones de personas en todo el mundo que trabajan en ella sigan obteniendo ingresos suficientes. El Articulo 11.1 del Codigo de conducta para la pesca responsable y otras secciones conexas del Codigo se ocupan especificamente de estas responsabilidades. Fish Marketing and Credit in Viet Nam
Since the early 1980s, exports of fish in Viet Nam have increased significantly while the improvement of domestic marketing and utilization of fish have not received sufficient attention. Improving supplies of fish for urban and rural populations, better quality and safety of products and ensuring food security, particularly for disadvantaged and vulnerable parts of the population, are important concerns which were addressed by studies, the findings of which are presented in this report. These findings suggest that the domestic consumption of fish in Viet Nam is probably higher than previously assumed. Given the projected strong economic growth over the coming years, it must be expected that local consumer demand will continue to expand. At the same time, the exportoriented fish processing industry will result in an increased demand for raw materials. This substantial future demand for safe and high quality fish products can only be met if efficient marketing arrangements are in place.

The Atlas shows the geographical distribution of catches (by weight) in the Pacific Ocean of principal market tuna species (albacore, bigeye, northern and southern bluefin, skipjack and yellowfin), billfishes (black marlin, blue marlin, striped marlin) and swordfish. Most data are presented at 5 latitude x 5 longitude squares resolution. A small portion of data for the Pacific off Southeast Asia is presented without any geographic resolution as this information was unavailable. The distribution of recent catches is provided as a graphical overview in some maps while distribution from a historical perspective is shown in others. For ease of reference, the complete set of compiled data (catches for 5 x 5 squares resolution) can be found on the diskette supplied with the Atlas. Specific data are provided therein on catches by fishing gear, species, year and quarter for 1962 to 1995.

Rice is a key staple in the Lao PDR, as in most of the region, and as such is an important element of food security. Moreover, the rice sector in the country has seen impressive development over the last ten years. However, the sector has reached a crossroads: further progress requires changes to the current policy mix in order to sustain sector growth and support the ongoing transition from rice subsistence to rice commercialization required to achieve the government s policy targets.This analytical study, an initiative of the Government of the Lao PDR, aims to support evidence-based policy decisions regarding the rice sector. Most importantly, it seeks to provide a useful contribution to the Government of the Lao PDR in its design of a rice sector policy for the country. The study is considered a first step in defining a comprehensive food security policy for the Lao PDR, and benefits from collaboration between the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).The study presents the background and contributory factors to the structural transformation of the Lao rice sector. It examines the policy framework and performance of the sector using data from recent agricultural censuses, then presents detailed simulation analyses for alternative scenarios of rice production, rice consumption, and the resulting balance of exportable rice surplus between 2012 and 2020. The RECOFI Workshop on Social and Economic Aspects of Fisheries in the RECOFI region was held in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain from 22 to 24 April 2012, following the agreement at the sixth session of the Regional Commission for Fisheries held in Rome from 10 to 12 May 2011. The meeting was convened by the RECOFI Secretary. The meeting was attended by 18 delegates from four member countries and two observers, as well as the RECOFI Secretariat. The workshop discussed the social and economic aspects of fisheries in RECOFI, reviewed the availability of data on the socio-economic statistics, analysis work and other relevant research activities in member countries and formulated a RECOFI action plan for regional cooperation in assessment of socio-economic aspects through identifying regional socio-economic indicators to be used at both national and regional levels.
