From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home
A REESE WITHERSPOON x HELLO SUNSHINE BOOK CLUB PICK NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER A poignant and transporting cross-cultural love story set against the lush backdrop of the Sicilian countryside, where one woman discovers the healing powers of food, family, and unexpected grace in her darkest hour. It was love at first sight when Tembi met professional chef, Saro, on a street in Florence. There was just one problem: Saro's traditional Sicilian family did not approve of him marrying a black American woman, an actress no less. However, the couple, heartbroken but undeterred, forges on. They build a happy life in Los Angeles, with fulfilling careers, deep friendships and the love of their lives: a baby girl they adopt at birth. Eventually, they reconcile with Saro's family just as he faces a formidable cancer that will consume all their dreams. From Scratch chronicles three summers Tembi spends in Sicily with her daughter, Zoela, as she begins to piece together a life without her husband in his tiny hometown hamlet of farmers. Where once Tembi was estranged from Saro's family and his origins, now she finds solace and nourishment-literally and spiritually-at her mother in law's table. In the Sicilian countryside, she discovers the healing gifts of simple fresh food, the embrace of a close knit community, and timeless traditions and wisdom that light a path forward. All along the way she reflects on her and Saro's incredible romance-an indelible love story that leaps off the pages. In Sicily, it is said that every story begins with a marriage or a death-in Tembi Locke's case, it is both. Her story is about loss, but it's really about love found. Her story is about travel, but it's really about finding a home. It is about food, but it's really about chasing flavor as an act of remembrance. From Scratch is for anyone who has dared to reach for big love, fought for what mattered most, and needed a powerful reminder that life is...delicious.

The wines of Great Britain
Great Britain is a premium wine-producing region, with around 650 vineyards in England and Wales covering some 2,750 hectares and producing sparkling and still wines. English and Welsh wines have won many prestigious awards recently and Stephen Skelton is the leading authority on the wines of the UK. The wines of Great Britain is a comprehensive survey of the history of UK wines, as well as of the current state of the wine industry and its future prospects. After a short introduction showing where UK wine is in 2019 and where it might go in the future Skelton considers the history of winemaking in the UK from King Alfred in the fifth century, through the medieval period to recent developments in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The wines of Great Britain then takes us on a tour of contemporary viticulture and winemaking, examining trends in plantings and vineyard layout, varieties, rootstocks and clones, vineyard sizes, modern wineries and styles of wine. Skelton considers regional identities as well as the branding of UK sparkling wines and their market position. A substantial part of this important book is the 21 detailed biographies of the most important, exciting and innovative producers and the wines they create. Wine businesses profiled in detail include Breaky Bottom, Chapel Down, Nyetimber, Oxney Organic Estate, Sixteen Ridges Vineyard and Yorkshire Heart Vineyard. Shorter entries on other significant or up and coming producers also feature.

Trekking the Kungsleden: The King's Trail through Northern Sweden
Sweden's most famous long-distance trail, the Kungsleden (King's Trail) traverses the land of the Sami people and the midnight sun, stretching 460km between Abisko and Hemavan. Around half the route lies within the Arctic Circle showcasing an ever-changing landscape of snowy mountains, deep glacial valleys, open fell, expansive lakes and verdant forest. The fully waymarked trail is comprised of five continuous and distinct sections: these can be walked individually or a thru-hike will take around a month. The guide also includes the popular Abisko to Nikkaluokta circuit, which can be completed in a week, and an ascent of Kebnekaise, Sweden's highest peak at 2098m. In addition to clear route description and mapping, you'll find a wealth of practical advice covering accommodation and facilities, equipment and resupply and detailed notes on how to get to and from the section start and finish-points. A Swedish and Fell Sami glossary can be found in the appendix. Although there are plentiful opportunities for wild camping, three of the five trail sections are equipped with huts (many including a shop and a sauna) making them easily accessible to all. The remaining two sections have a more remote feel that will appeal to those intent on finding some solitude. To add further colour, there are seven mandatory lake crossings on the trail with the option of rowing or using the motorised service: full details are provided in the text. The Kungsleden passes through five national parks, including Sarek. Other highlights include the striking Tjaktjavagge glacial valley and the famous hay meadows of Aktse, perfectly framed by the azure Lajtavrre delta and the sheer chiselled face of Skierrffe. The Kungsleden invites you to step into a new world, and it may well prove to be the start of a long and rich association involving many repeated visits.

A Course Called Scotland: Searching the Home of Golf for the Secret to Its Game
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * One of the best golf books this century. -Golf Digest Tom Coyne's A Course Called Scotland is a heartfelt and humorous celebration of his quest to play golf on every links course in Scotland, the birthplace of the game he loves. For much of his adult life, bestselling author Tom Coyne has been chasing a golf ball around the globe. When he was in college, studying abroad in London, he entered the lottery for a prized tee time in Scotland, grabbing his clubs and jumping the train to St. Andrews as his friends partied in Amsterdam; later, he golfed the entirety of Ireland's coastline, chased pros through the mini-tours, and attended grueling Qualifying Schools in Australia, Canada, and Latin America. Yet, as he watched the greats compete, he felt something was missing. Then one day a friend suggested he attempt to play every links course in Scotland and qualify for the greatest championship in golf. The result is A Course Called Scotland, a fast-moving, insightful, often funny travelogue encompassing the width of much of the British Isles (GolfWeek), including St. Andrews, Turnberry, Dornoch, Prestwick, Troon, and Carnoustie. With his signature blend of storytelling, humor, history, and insight, Coyne weaves together his witty and charming (Publishers Weekly) journey to more than 100 legendary courses in Scotland with compelling threads of golf history and insights into the contemporary home of golf. As he journeys Scotland in search of the game's secrets, he discovers new and old friends, rediscovers the peace and power of the sport, and, most importantly, reaffirms the ultimate connection between the game and the soul. It is a must-read (Golf Advisor) rollicking love letter to Scotland and golf as no one has attempted it before.

The Julian Alps of Slovenia: Mountain Walks and Short Treks
This guidebook contains 58 walking routes which explore the best of the Julian Alps of Slovenia. The walks and treks in this guidebook are organised around five bases in the Julian Alps - Kranjska Gora, Bovec, Kobarid, Bled and Bohinj - all of which have a range of accommodation and public transport facilities. There is something here for everyone - from easy valley walks and rougher forest trails to high-mountain protected routes, some of which require Alpine mountaineering experience. Several possibilities for multi-day walks are included. The Julian Alps are situated in the small independent republic of Slovenia, at the south-eastern end of the Alpine chain. Their highest peak, Triglav, at 2864m, may be smaller than some of the better-known western giants, but what the mountains lack in stature they make up for in interest and accessibility. The dramatic limestone peaks drop steeply through forests to flower meadows, and will give you a feast for the eyes no matter which direction you turn.

Cook Like a Local in France
A trip to the supermarket while vacationing in a foreign country can be a frustrating ordeal. How to choose the best seafood (what is the deal with the tiny packages of fish?) proper farmers' market etiquette (is it okay to touch the veggies?) and choosing the right checkout line (there are different kinds?) can all lead to moments of confusion, and asking for help is not so easy with a language barrier. When author Lynne Martin tried living as locals do in France, she found making her own meals nearly impossible. Unfamiliar with cuts of meat and unable to decipher labels or cooking instructions, she was surrounded by delicious produce but lost when it came to utilising it in French cooking. Chef Deborah Scarborough came to her rescue, and now, in Shop Like a Local in France, both share their tips for other travellers looking to rock their vacation cooking or explore French cuisine at home. In addition to 50 recipes, there are guides to wine and cheese, tips for stocking a rental home and information about French kitchen basics.

The Desk on the Sea
The Desk on the Sea begins four years after American poet Jonathan Johnson spread his mother's ashes in her beloved Lake Superior and moved with his wife and young daughter into a seventeenth-century cottage on Scotland's North Sea. On an idyllic, desolate coast and in the wild Highlands, Johnson began his search for a way to live through ongoing grief and to take in the wonder of each new day. Through years of extraordinary suffering by way of multiple ailments, Johnson's mother, Sheila, endured an astounding number of amputations-a toe, the end of a finger, a foot, whole fingers, the other foot. What she lost in her physical being, she gained in her kindness and generosity. By the time she was told that the only way she could survive a little longer was the amputation of both hands, she was capable of giving those who loved her and herself a beautiful death instead. Inspired by her example of grace and awareness, Johnson and his family gave themselves one year on the coast of Scotland to live by Shelia's great, guiding principle: We don't get the days back. They wandered trails along windswept shores and past the stone ruins left by people who'd come and gone before. They played as characters from Harry Potter on deserted beaches. From their cottage, they watched an island lighthouse, counting the seconds between flashes to know exactly when to say goodnight so the lighthouse would answer with a wink. The Desk on the Sea is a chronicle of progress toward one man's new life goal-to be a father, husband, and poet worthy of his mother's legacy. Sustained by an unwavering belief that words can help us fully occupy our lives, and that imagination and empathy can transform suffering into what John Keats called soul-making, Johnson offers readers a raw look at love and loss.
