Guidance of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
Written by an expert with more than 30 years of experience, Guidance of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles contains new analytical results, taken from the author's research, which can be used for analysis and design of unmanned aerial vehicles guidance and control systems. This book progresses from a clear elucidation of guidance laws and unmanned aerial vehicle dynamics to the modeling of their guidance and control systems. Special attention is paid to guidance of autonomous UAVs, which differs from traditional missile guidance. The author explains UAV applications, contrasting them to a missile's limited ability (or inability) to control axial acceleration. The discussion of guidance laws for UAVs presents a generalization of missile guidance laws developed by the author. The computational algorithms behind these laws are tested in three applications-for the surveillance problem, the refueling problem, and for the motion control of a swarm of UAVs. The procedure of choosing and testing the guidance laws is also considered in an example of future generation of airborne interceptors launched from UAVs. The author provides an innovative presentation of the theoretical aspects of unmanned aerial vehicles' guidance that cannot be found in any other book. It presents new ideas that, once crystallized, can be implemented in the new generation of unmanned aerial systems.

Extreme Tribology
Tribology is an unfamiliar term for many people, whereas it is encountered by all of us. It is the science of friction, lubrication and wear of moving solid components. The aim of Extreme Tribology is to provide a simple form of fundamentals along with the characteristics of tribological challenges in extreme working conditions. The first two chapters of the book offer a comprehensive review of the classical tribology of solid contacts, friction mechanics, wear mechanisms and lubrication techniques. These chapters are recommended for undergraduates and postgraduates studying tribology. In the following two chapters, the author discusses the main features of extraordinary conditions including, but not limited to, extreme environments, sliding severity and lubrication challenges. The state-of-the-art researches on friction and wear under these extreme conditions are discussed extensively which will be of interest to researchers as well as postgraduate students. Chapters five and six discuss the development of solutions for extreme tribology, providing a complete overview to the various factors affecting tribo-systems in extreme conditions, and focusing on the recent progress in techniques used to control and reduce wear in such situations. In addition, tribology of automotive components is presented in chapter seven as tribological applications in practical situations. Chapter eight offers a basic understanding of the failure in tribological systems. The following two chapters explore current states and development trends in tribology of polymer composites and the emerging field of MEMS and NEMS with a special interest in the effects of environmental and working conditions. Diverse methods applied in predicting wear behavior by mathematical models, FE modeling and ANN approach are introduced in the last chapter. The book consists of eleven chapters and each of them is accompanied by relevant references.

Mechanics of Creep Brittle Materials: v. 1
Failure of components which operate in the creep range can result either from the growth of a dominant crack or through the accumulation of 'damage' in the material. Conventional and nuclear power generating plant are generally designed on the basis of continuum failure, with assessment routes providing an indication of the effects of flaws on component performance. Another example where an understanding of creep failure is important is in the design of offshore structures which operate in arctic waters. These structures can be subjected to quite considerable forces by wind-driven ice sheets, which are limited by failure of the ice sheet. Design codes are currently being developed which identify the different mechanisms of failure, ranging from continuum crushing to radial cracking and buckling of the ice sheet. Our final example concerns engineering ceramics, which are currently being considered for use in a wide range of high-temperature applications. A major problem preventing an early adoption of these materials is their brittle response at high stresses, although they can behave in a ductile manner at lower stresses. In each of the above situations an understanding of the processes of fast fracture, creep crack growth and continuum failure is required, and in particular an understanding of the material and structural features that influence the transition from brittle to ductile behaviour. The translation of this information to component design is most advanced for metallic components.

Fluid Dynamics: Theory, Computation and Numerical Simulation
Fluid Dynamics: Theory, Computation, and Numerical Simulation is the only available book that extends the classical field of fluid dynamics into the realm of scientific computing in a way that is both comprehensive and accessible to the beginner. The theory of fluid dynamics, and the implementation of solution procedures into numerical algorithms, are discussed hand-in-hand and with reference to computer programming. This book is an accessible introduction to theoretical and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), written from a modern perspective that unifies theory and numerical practice. There are several additions and subject expansions in the Second Edition of Fluid Dynamics , including new Matlab and FORTRAN codes. Two distinguishing features of the discourse are: solution procedures and algorithms are developed immediately after problem formulations are presented, and numerical methods are introduced on a need-to-know basis and in increasing order of difficulty. Matlab codes are presented and discussed for a broad range of topics; from inter facial shapes in hydrostatics, to vortex dynamics, to Stokes flow, to turbulent flow. A supplement to this book is the FORTRAN software library FDLIB, freely available through the Internet, whose programs explicitly illustrate how computational algorithms translate into computer code instructions. The codes of FDLIB range from introductory to advanced, and the problems considered span a broad range of applications; from laminar channel flows, to vortex flows, to flows in aerodynamics. Selected computer problems at the end of each section ask the student to run the programs for various flow conditions, and thereby study the effect of the various parameters determining each flow. FDLIB offers an extensive range of Fortran 77 and Matlab programs that demonstrate the implementation of elementary and advanced algorithms and provide an invaluable resource for research, classroom instruction, and self-study. This text is a must for practitioners and students in all fields of engineering, computational physics, scientific computing, and applied mathematics. It can be used as a text in both undergraduate and graduate courses in fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and computational fluid dynamics. The audience includes not only advanced undergraduate and entry-level graduate students, but also a broad class of scientists and engineers with a general interest in scientific computing.
