One of America's most beloved sportscasters turns the spotlight on his own life, chronicling his incredible life covering Southeastern Conference football and some of the most iconic moments in sports history over the last five decades Verne Lundquist's remarkable broadcasting career has placed him at the center of major sporting events in America for more than fifty years, from Jack Nicklaus's final victory at the 1986 Masters to Tonya Harding's attack on Nancy Kerrigan at the 1994 Olympics to the Auburn-Alabama shocker of 2013. In his first memoir, he replays highlights from his career, taking sports fans behind the scenes of some of the most dramatic moments in modern sports history. Lundquist goes back to the early days of his broadcasting career, recalling his time as a producer and radio show host in Dallas when President John F. Kennedy was shot. He reminisces about Tom Landry and the great Dallas Cowboy teams of the 1970s, recalls the most unbelievable moments in Masters Tournament history, and relives the excitement of Christian Laettner's buzzer beater in the NCAA tournament and a host of other memorable thrills. One of the defining voices of Saturday afternoon football for the SEC, Lundquist offers an in-depth look at the fans, the schools, and the game, recounting never-before-told stories about some of college football's biggest personalities. He also speaks honestly about his friendships with Terry Bradshaw, John Madden, and other greats, and his difficult relationship with legendary colleague Pat Summerall. Bringing these memories vibrantly to life with his beloved catchphrases and warm humor, and sharing fifty photos from his personal collection, Lundquist gives readers a front row seat to history as he witnessed it unfold.

AFC Bournemouth: The Fall and Rise is the ultimate rags-to-riches football story, exploring how a small lower-league club on the south coast fought back against all the odds to reach the riches of the English Premier League. With fascinating insights from renowned manager Eddie Howe and all the key players, the book reflects on the club's day of destiny against Bolton Wanderers in April 2015, when Premier League promotion was secured just six years after the club almost went out of existence. Former captain Tommy Elphick candidly reveals how Howe plotted the Cherries' route out of the Championship, while club legend Steve Fletcher tells the emotionally charged story of his return - and the goal in 2009 that halted the club's slide into non-league. Howe, meanwhile, provides amazing detail into how he took a club on the brink to the top of the beautiful game.

Sean Cavanagh: The Obsession: My Autobiography
SEAN CAVANAGH is one of the greatest Gaelic footballers of all time. A threetime All-Ireland winner and five-time All Star, Cavanagh was crowned Footballer of the Year in 2008 and captained Ireland in the International Rules series. He holds the record for the highest number of appearances (89) for an outfield intercounty footballer and was a permanent fixture in the Tyrone team after his debut in 2002. Early in 2018 he ended his glorious career with an unexpected All-Ireland Intermediate Championship title with his club, Moy. But those successes are only part of Sean Cavanagh's story. Cavanagh's youth played out amid the Troubles in Northern Ireland. He moved homes and clubs when he was ten, leaving Coalisland for Moy on the Armagh border and tells of the challenges he faced at that time - including being constantly spat on during one Ulster Championship game, having his teeth knocked out in another and his ongoing obsession to beat the arthritis that threatened his career. Along with the successes and victories throughout an incredible career, the massive strain that losing big games placed on him is laid bare. Like the dark night in 2016 when he spent hours alone just walking in his Tyrone strip for mile after mile, after losing to Mayo nearly tipped him over the edge. The time in 2009 when it was widely reported that Cavanagh's `roof caved in' before the All Ireland semi-final against Cork - now addressed here by Sean. And, for the first time, Sean reveals the full story of his controversial relationship with manager Mickey Harte, their bond over a 16-year period and the truth behind the rumours of serious rifts. Cavanagh also tells of scurrilous gossip surrounding his private life and how news journalists hounded his family during this time. He gives his view on Tyrone's RTE boycott and addresses the vicious tirade against him by TV pundit Joe Brolly that made headlines. On his road to greatness, Cavanagh also turned down a professional AFL career. This exhilarating book now reveals the enormous lengths he went to to ensure a lasting legacy at home in Ireland and the lifetime obsessions that have made Sean Cavanagh a legend of the game and the man he is today.

What Happened to Serie A: The Rise, Fall and Signs of Revival
In the 1980s and 1990s, Serie A was known as `Il campionato piu bello del mondo' - the most beautiful championship in the world - and had the highest match attendances in Europe. The stadiums were not only full of people, but full of colour, flags, songs and rituals. Italy hosted World Cup 1990 and the stadia and stars on show in Serie A became iconic. Across a ten year period from 1989 to 1999 a remarkable 10 different Serie A clubs occupied nearly half the places in the finals of the Champions League and Europa Cup. They were dominant. But then in the 2000s they began to fall behind and despite the Azzurri winning the World Cup in 2006 and Inter Milan winning the Champions League in 2010, Italian football was on a downwards trajectory that saw the national team fail to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, their first absence from the tournament since 1958. What happened and why? In this extraordinary book, Steven G. Mandis investigates. Given unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to Italian clubs and key decision makers and players, Mandis is the first outside researcher to rigorously analyse both the on-the-pitch and business aspects of a club and league. What he learns is completely unexpected and challenges popular explanations and conventional wisdom.

Brave New World: Inside Pochettino's Spurs
The Sunday Times Bestseller The exclusive behind-the-scenes story of the Mauricio Pochettino revolution at Spurs, told in his own words Since joining the club in 2014, Mauricio Pochettino has transformed Tottenham from underachievers into genuine title contenders. In the process, he has marked himself out as one of the best managers in the world. He has done so by promoting an attacking, pressing style of football and by nurturing home-grown talent, fully endearing himself to the Spurs faithful along the way. Guillem Balague was granted unprecedented access to Pochettino and his backroom staff for the duration of the 2016-17 season, and was therefore able to draw on extensive interview material with Pochettino, his family, his closest assistants, players such as Dele Alli and Harry Kane, and even a very rare conversation with Daniel Levy to tell the manager's story in his own words. From Pochettino's early years as a player and coach to his transformation of Tottenham into one of the best teams in England, the book uniquely reveals the inner workings of the man and of his footballing philosophy. It also lays bare what it takes to run a modern-day football team competing at the highest level over the course of a single campaign. The result is the most comprehensive and compelling portrait of a manager and of a club in the Premier League era.

Gender, Athletes' Rights, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport
Disputes over gender, doping, and eligibility in Olympic sport are widely covered in sport studies and in the mainstream media. Less well known are the functions of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and the threat it poses to athletes' rights by depriving them of access to their own countries' court systems. CAS loosely follows the model of international arbitration tribunals. As in forced arbitration outside of sport, employees - in this case, high performance athletes - sign contracts agreeing to arbitration rather than litigation as the sole means of dispute resolution. Promoting the concept of sport exceptionalism, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) justifies the power it exercises through CAS by claiming that sport must be autonomous and self-regulating, with disputes settled by specialist arbitrators. Arguments in support of this position point to lex sportiva (global sports law) as a valid legal principle in sport-related disputes, which, it is claimed, cannot be understood or resolved by non-specialists. Self-regulation works effectively to protect the Olympic industry brand by keeping disputes `in the family'. This critical analysis of CAS's history and functions demonstrates how athletes' rights are threatened by the forced arbitration process at CAS. In particular, CAS decisions involving female and gender-variant athletes, and racialized men and women, reflect numerous injustices. As well as the chronic problem of CAS's lack of independence, other issues examined here include confidentiality, lex sportiva, non-precedential awards, the closed list of specialist arbitrators, and, in doping cases, questions concerning strict liability and burden of proof.

How did a professional ballerina become one of the winningest coaches in NCAA history? Valorie Kondos Field has never even turned a cartwheel, but she has won six NCAA gymnastics championships as coach of the UCLA women's gymnastics team. In LIFE IS SHORT, DON'T WAIT TO DANCE, Miss Val shares her secrets to success, such as Drop the Act, Do You; Triumph Over Adversity; Life Is Not a Dress Rehearsal; Coach Wooden's Missing Brick; Guts Are Louder Than Whistles; and Confident Enough to Collaborate, which began when she realized she'd never win by mimicking other top coaches. She had to embrace and hone her own uniqueness. The results have been stunning for her and for the student athletes, including Olympians Simone Biles and Kyla Ross, who have thrived under her tutelage. Curiosity, creativity, attention to detail, and unwavering care for the overall well-being of her athletes are the hallmarks of Miss Val's success, and they can be applied to business and life as well as to sports. As a breast cancer survivor, Miss Val, who says the year she was diagnosed was actually one of the best of her life, has learned that success is about choreographing your life and owning the choices you make. Many of Miss Val's timeless philosophies were shaped by her mentor, legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden and she weaves stories of her time with him into this remarkable narrative of a 35-year career, that in 2016 was immortalized by being named the PAC-12 Gymnastics Coach of the Century. LIFE IS SHORT, DON'T WAIT TO DANCE is packed with brutally honest advice delivered in an inspirational tone Miss Val is known for, and will help readers live a more fulfilling and intentional life.

Longlisted for the Specsavers National Book Awards, 2018 Daily Mail's Book of the Year, 2018 The match-winning superstar of the England cricket team finally shares his remarkable personal story in this eagerly-awaited autobiography. Moeen traces his journey from street cricket to the county game and his first-class debut as a teenager, through to his international debut at the relatively late age of 26 and the golden summer of 2017, when he was anointed Player of the Series against South Africa with thousands of England fans chanting his name. But cricket is just one part of Moeen's life. His upbringing in the tough Sparkhill neighbourhood of Birmingham and the awakening at nineteen that led him to become a devout Muslim have given him a social conscience unusual for an elite athlete but have also attracted controversy. Here, for the first time, Moeen tells his side of the story. Talented, tenacious and thoughtful, Moeen Ali is a true all-rounder.

Butch Wilkins and the Sundance Kid: A Teenage Obsession with TV Sport
Butch Wilkins and the Sundance Kid chronicles the author's decade-long obsession with televised sport during his teenage years in the 1980s. Charting similar waters to Nick Hornby's classic Fever Pitch, but with the hopeless devotion of a teenager faithfully following his team around the country replaced by the hopeless devotion of a teenager faithfully following sport (any sport) around the TV schedules. It is memoir intertwined with nostalgia, ruminations on the changing face of sport during this time, portraits of its heroes and villains, and reflections on teenagehood and impending adulthood. Sweet, wise and witty, Butch Wilkins and the Sundance Kid is a hymn to televised sport in the 1980s - as well as to the decade itself - combining humour, insight and poignancy to vividly depict the way sport can transcend the television screen to impact on wider life, hopes and ambitions.

The growth and development of sport in Co. Tipperary, 1840 to 1880, was promoted and supported by the landed elite and military officer classes. The growth and development of sport in Co. Tipperary, 1840 to 1880, was promoted and supported by the landed elite and military officer classes. In the instances of cricket, rugby union and association football, the military were the principle agency through which these sports were spread and made known among the people in the county. Sporting trends which were fashionable in Great Britain also became evident in Ireland, and by extension, Tipperary. The degree to which horse racing and hunting to hounds became an integral aspect of the social lives of the elite class is reflected countywide. The associational culture among this class became evident in summer time recreations most notably archery, lawn tennis and cricket. Cricket was the one sport which was quickly diffused throughout the sporting community of Tipperary as it became, in the 1870s, the most prolific team sport in the county and played by all classes. Sport took place without borders and to this end patronage was a key element of this support. There were some notable supporters who gave of their time and money to ensure that the best resources were in place to bring this about.
