Basic Manufacturing Processes: Theory and Practice
The book Basic Manufacturing Processes Theory and Practice has been designed as a Rapid Learning Package , written with a view to familiarize the freshmen of technical institutes/colleges with the elementary theory and practice, and the conventional tools and equipment used for the manufacturing of engineering goods. Basic Manufacturing Processes course is the core course common to all the branches of engineering. It is taught at the first year level in one semester of degree and diploma courses of all the Indian Universities/Boards imparting technical education. The book covers the theoretical and practical aspects of the course in a simple and concise manner. The theory of the basic manufacturing processes and their underlying principleshave been dealt with in a brief but easy way. The common tools and equipment used in various shops of a general purpose workshop have also been discussed. Necessary diagrams have been given to help students understand the concepts better. The book fully covers the syllabus of the first year level course of `Workshop Practice/Manufacturing Processes' prescribed for the degree and diploma students of engineering. However, the book is not meant for exhaustive study of the subject. The salient features of the book are presentation of contents in a lucid manner, more than 270 figures to support theory and practice, objectives at the start of each chapter, practice jobs, summary to quickly revise the individual chapters and short answer/viva-Voice Questions. The book has been written, keeping in mind, even the weakest student in the class. No prerequisite is required to study this course with the help of this book.

Input-Output Models for Sustainable Industrial Systems: Implementation Using LINGO
This book addresses the specialized topic of input-output models for sustainable industrial systems. While these models are well-established tools for economic analysis, their underlying mathematical structure is also applicable to the analysis and optimization of a wide range of systems that are characterized by linear interdependencies among their components. This means that input-output models can be used for diverse networks, such as processes within industrial plants, industrial plants in a supply chain, or departmental units within an organization. The models can also be readily extended to interactions between man-made systems and the environment, e.g. flows of natural resources and/or pollutants. Furthermore, model variants with excess degrees of freedom can be formulated to allow optimization and decision-making to be integrated within the framework. This book examines how input-output models can be applied to sustainable industrial systems. Each major variant is discussed separately in a dedicated chapter, and representative case studies and supporting LINGO code are also included.

Applications of Aminoacylation Ribozymes That Recognize the 3'-end of tRNA
In this thesis, applications of aminoacylation ribozymes named flexizymes are described. Flexizymes have the following unique characteristics: (i) substrate RNA is recognized by two consecutive base pairs between the 3'-end of substrate RNA and the 3'-end of the flexizyme; (ii) these base pairs can be substituted with other base pairs; and (iii) various activated amino acids can be used as substrates including both canonical and noncanonical amino acids. This flexible aminoacylation of RNAs by flexizymes was used to label endogenous tRNAs to be removed, and in vitro selection using the tRNA-depleted library enabled the discovery of the novel interaction between the microRNA precursor and metabolites. Flexizymes are also used to prepare various aminoacyl-tRNAs bearing mutations at the 3'-end to engineer the translation machinery and to develop the orthogonal translation machinery. The first part of the research demonstrated that SELEX is appropriate for discovering the interaction between small RNA and ligands, and suggested that more RNA motif binding to small molecules exists in small RNAs. The second part opened a door to new opportunities for in vitro synthetic biology involving the engineering of the genetic codes and translation machineries. This research also indicated the great potential of aminoacylation by flexizymes to be applied in various fields of RNA research, which is beneficial for RNA researchers.

Stabilizing and Optimizing Control for Time-Delay Systems: Including Model Predictive Controls
Stabilizing and Optimizing Control for Time-Delay Systems introduces three important classes of stabilizing controls for time-delay systems: non-optimal (without performance criteria); suboptimal (including guaranteed costs); and optimal controls. Each class is treated in detail and compared in terms of prior control structures. State- and input-delayed systems are considered. The book provides a unified mathematical framework with common notation being used throughout. Receding-horizon, or model predictive, linear quadratic (LQ), linear-quadratic-Gaussian and H controls for time-delay systems are chosen as optimal stabilizing controls. Cost monotonicity is investigated in order to guarantee the asymptotic stability of closed-loop systems operating with such controls. The authors use guaranteed LQ and H controls as representative sub-optimal methods; these are obtained with pre-determined control structures and certain upper bounds of performance criteria. Non-optimal stabilizing controls are obtained with predetermined control structures but with no performance criteria. Recently developed inequalities are exploited to obtain less conservative results. To facilitate computation, the authors use linear matrix inequalities to represent gain matrices for non-optimal and sub-optimal stabilizing controls, and all the initial conditions of coupled differential Riccati equations of optimal stabilizing controls. Numerical examples are provided with MATLAB (R) codes (downloadable from http://extras.springer.com/) to give readers guidance in working with more difficult optimal and suboptimal controls. Academic researchers studying control of a variety of real processes in chemistry, biology, transportation, digital communication networks and mechanical systems that are subject to time delays will find the results presented in Stabilizing and Optimizing Control for Time-Delay Systems to be helpful in their work. Practitioners working in related sectors of industry will also find this book to be of use in developing real-world control systems for the many time-delayed processes they encounter.

Clay Mineral Catalysis of Organic Reactions
The book provides insight into the working of clays and clay minerals in speeding up a variety of organic reactions. Clay minerals are known to have a large propensity for taking up organic molecules and can catalyse numerous organic reactions due to fine particle size, extensive surface area, layer structure, and peculiar charge characteristics. They can be used as heterogeneous catalysts and catalyst carriers of organic reactions because they are non-corrosive, easy to separate from the reaction mixture, and reusable. Clays and clay minerals have an advantage over other solid acids as they are abundant, inexpensive, and non-polluting.

New Carbon-Carbon Coupling Reactions Based on Decarboxylation and Iron-Catalyzed C-H Activation
This thesis presents the latest developments in new catalytic C-C bond formation methods using easily accessible carboxylate salts through catalytic decarboxylation with good atom economy, and employing the sustainable element iron as the catalyst to directly activate C-H bonds with high step efficiency. In this regard, it explores a mechanistic understanding of the newly discovered decarboxylative couplings and the catalytic reactivity of the iron catalyst with the help of density functional theory calculation. The thesis is divided into two parts, the first of which focuses on the development of a series of previously unexplored, inexpensive carboxylate salts as useful building blocks for the formation of various C-C bonds to access valuable chemicals. In turn, the second part is devoted to several new C-C bond formation methodologies using the most ubiquitous transition metal, iron, as a catalyst, and using the ubiquitous C-H bond as the coupling partner.

Resource Recovery from Municipal Sewage Plants: An Energy-Water-Nutrients Nexus for Developing Countries
Water, energy, and food are basic requirements for life, and this book presents solutions for obtaining these from sewage wastewater treatment plants. It describes the optimal recovery of value-added products from municipal sewage plants in developing countries, and explains how the plants' operations can become both economical and sustainable. Further, it shows how the clean effluent that is obtained is then suitable for agricultural use in the production of bio-fertilizers, and graywater for irrigation, and how the recovered biogas could be used for energy and heating needs. Practical case studies from three separate sewage plants are presented to illustrate the processes involved.

Chemical Transformations of Carbon Dioxide
The series Topics in Current Chemistry Collections presents critical reviews from the journal Topics in Current Chemistry organized in topical volumes. The scope of coverage is all areas of chemical science including the interfaces with related disciplines such as biology, medicine and materials science. The goal of each thematic volume is to give the non-specialist reader, whether in academia or industry, a comprehensive insight into an area where new research is emerging which is of interest to a larger scientific audience. Each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years are presented using selected examples to illustrate the principles discussed. The coverage is not intended to be an exhaustive summary of the field or include large quantities of data, but should rather be conceptual, concentrating on the methodological thinking that will allow the non-specialist reader to understand the information presented. Contributions also offer an outlook on potential future developments in the field.
