Mahabharata
Few works in world literature have inspired so vast an audience in nations with radically different languages and cultures as the Mahabharata. Written some 2,000 years ago and probably the longest Indian epic ever composed, it is a story of dynastic struggle that culminates in a fatal clash between two branches of a single ruling family. It is a moral and philosophical tale as well as a historical one. In his introduction, Sanskritist B. A. van Nooten notes that apart from William Buck's rendition no other English version has been able to capture the blend of religion and martial spirit that pervades the original epic.

Blood Lust 2: The Carrion: 2
Cameron and Gillian are an odd boyfriend and girlfriend - he's a vampire and she's a reanimated corpse - and ever since they became living-dead, trouble has followed them around like a bad smell. A good-intentioned trip to see his father coincides with a Satanist serial killer's plan to control the primal force of Death. This, in turn, causes the dead to rise and go on a human flesh-devouring rampage across the city and Cameron is forced to use his powers to save himself, Gillian, his family and ultimately the World. Again. The Carrion is a comedy, schlock horror, gore-fest fusing multiple horror myths and popular cultural references to produce a self-parodying, action-adventure that would appeal to the likes of Pratchett and Rankin fans and horror readers who don't mind their classics getting a wry remix.

Blood Lust
Cameron Mortice has always taken the path of least resistance, which usually means he does nothing. So predictably, when he, his girlfriend and her friends get dragged into a full-scale vampire invasion he just goes with the flow and gets killed too. Then things go from bad to worse for him. With an age-old vampire hunter, supposedly, helping them through it all, the youths have set their priorities to destroy the vampire menace and survive to see another day. Q: How can you fight against an army of super-strength, immortal beings with no morals and no compunction about ripping your head off and sucking on the open wound? A: High caliber, automatic weapons. Well, if you think about it, a bullet is just a very small metal stake. Blood Lust is a high energy, situation-comedy that takes every cliche in the vampire chronicles and gives it new life to produce a tongue-in-cheek, schlock horror, action adventure that just doesn't know when to stop. Until it does.

Chris Crutcher: A Stotan for Young Adults
Chris Crutcher is a literary icon in the field of young adult literature. With his first book, Running Loose published in 1983, Crutcher established a reputation for giving young adults a voice in realistic fiction. Since then, Crutcher has written a number of books with spot-on depictions of young adults growing through hard times, including Ironman, Whale Talk, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, and Stotan! In Chris Crutcher: A Stotan for Young Adults, Bryan Gillis and Pam B. Cole examine the life, career, and works of this young adult advocate. This volume opens with a never-before-published comprehensive portrait of the author's life, gleaned from numerous conversations with Crutcher. The authors explore Crutcher's childhood, his adolescent years, his life as an adult, and his career as a family counselor and examine how those experiences became fodder for his stories. The authors also discuss Crutcher's encounters with censorship and his philosophical stance. Gillis and Cole also analyze Crutcher's novels, short stories, and novellas, examining his literary craft and such social themes as bigotry, identity, sexuality, relationships, and loss-themes almost always positioned within a sports story. The most comprehensive study of Crutcher's life and work to date, this book benefits tremendously from the cooperation of Crutcher himself. Generally reserved about private matters, Crutcher talks candidly about his life and how his experiences helped shape his character and his stories. His cooperative spirit gives voice to a book that will appeal not only to teachers and librarians but to students who have been enthralled by the works of this generous writer.

The Silent Killer
When 14 year old Natasha discovers that her best friend Jasmine has contracted AIDS she is devastated and confused. She cannot understand how someone so young and innocent could have contracted such a deadly disease, until her thoughts turn toward Jasmine's popular boyfriend, Mike. It comes as no surprise when Mike, who has had multiple sexual partners, leaves for England but what remains puzzling is his apparent immunity to the virus which causes AIDS. The teens struggle to balance the physical changes taking place in their bodies and the mental frustration that comes along with not understanding these changes. They must also grapple with the pressures of a materialistic culture. Forced to address their awakening sexuality, the word responsibility take on a whole new meaning in the face of the very real threat of contracting HIV/AIDS. The message of sexual responsibility and abstinence hits home when, after several bouts of illness, Jasmine succumbs to the disease. But Jasmine is not the first teen to be affected by AIDS in the novel and her initial scorn of a young teenage girl who died of AIDS is a brutal reminder of the prejudices that exist regarding the disease. The message is clear: AIDS is not partial. Barbara Chase's novel is a captivating read. Her vivid descriptions highlight the many misconceptions about HIV/AIDS which are not limited to geography, age or gender. Whilst the situations are geared toward a teenage audience, the novel invites a wide readership.

Sharon Creech
Sharon Creech is a best-selling author for young adult readers, and her books are enjoyed in both classroom settings and for leisure reading for three important reasons: -She shows great respect for teens through giving attention to the voices of teen protagonists, creating adventures in which teens grown socially and emotionally as a result of a journey. Shaggy Muses: The Dogs Who Inspired Virginia Woolf, Emily Dickinson, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Edith Wharton, and Emily Bronte
You'll call this sentimental--perhaps--but then a dog somehow represents the private side of life, the play side, Virginia Woolf confessed to a friend. In this charming and engaging book, Maureen Adams celebrates this private, playful side telling readers about the relationships between five remarkable women writers and their dogs. In Shaggy Muses, Adams explores the work and lives of these authors through the various roles played by their most devoted companions. Elizabeth Barrett Browning was rescued from a life of passivity and illness by Flush, a lively, possessive (and frequently dog-napped!) golden Cocker Spaniel. Emily Bronte's fierce Mastiff mix, Keeper, provided a safe and loving outlet for the writer's equally fierce spirit. Emily Dickinson found companionship with Carlo, the gentle, giant Newfoundland who soothed her emotional terrors. A troop of ever-faithful Pekingese warmed Edith Wharton's lonely heart during her restless travels among Europe and America's social and intellectual elite. And Virginia Woolf developed a deep attachment to Pinka, a black Cocker Spaniel who was both gift from her lover, Vita Sackville-West, and a link to her husband Leonard. Based on diaries, letters, and other contemporary accounts--and featuring many illustrations of the writers and their dogs--these five miniature biographies allow unparalleled intimacy with women of genius in their hours of domestic ease and inner vulnerability.
