Harvest Home: A Novel
In this spellbinding horror novel, a family trades their crime-ridden city for country life-and encounters an evil more sinister than they could have imagined After watching his asthmatic daughter suffer in the foul city air, Theodore Constantine decides to get back to the land. When he and his wife search New England for the perfect nineteenth-century home, they find no township more charming, no countryside more idyllic than the farming village of Cornwall Coombe. Here they begin a new life: simple, pure, close to nature-and ultimately more terrifying than Manhattan's darkest alley. When the Constantines win the friendship of the town matriarch, the mysterious Widow Fortune, they are invited to join the ancient festival of Harvest Home, a ceremony whose quaintness disguises dark intentions. In this bucolic hamlet, where bootleggers work by moonlight and all of the villagers seem to share the same last name, the past is more present than outsiders can fathom-and something far more sinister than the annual harvest is about to rise out of the earth. Credited as the inspiration for Stephen King's Children of the Corn, Thomas Tryon's chilling novel was ahead of its time when first published, and continues to provoke abject terror in readers.

`I loved it...terrifying' Lisa Hall Flowers in the Attic meets The Girls: a gripping combination of fear, sexual tension and lethal fascination. The deadliest trap is the one you don't see... Sofia has just finished university and ended a troubled relationship when she attends a lecture about a New Age movement, Via Terra. Its leader is Franz Oswald, young, good-looking, urbane and mesmerizing. When Sofia meets Franz Oswald, the handsome, charming leader of a mysterious New Age movement, she's dazzled and intrigued. Visiting his headquarters on Fog Island, Sofia's struck by the beautiful mansion overlooking the sea, the gardens, the sense of peace and the purposefulness of the people who live there. And she can't ignore the attraction she feels for Franz. So she agrees to stay, just for a while. But as summer gives way to winter, and the dense fog from which the island draws its name sets in, it becomes clear that Franz rules the island with an iron fist. No phones or computers are allowed. Contact with the mainland is severed. Electric fences surround the grounds. And Sofia begins to realize how very alone she is and that no one ever leaves Fog Island... She's a witch. He's a private detective. And when they get together, it's magic. The private detective and the witch are back investigating four new exciting mysteries: The Mystery of Stone Heart Studios by Philip Meeks. All that creation can't simply vanish. All that imagination. It has to still be here somehow; a power of its very own. And if that power joined forces with another power, surely a miracle might occur. I believe my babies are coming to life. After all these years they're finally going to be real. Cassandra and Tony are hired to investigate an impossible murder high in the Hollywood Hills. Once the home of Curdlespoon the Lion, Barbara Bison and a whole host of America's favourite cartoon characters, Stone Heart Studio's closed over a decade ago after a spate of unfortunate accidental deaths. Now Tina Heart has raised the funds to reopen the studios and finish the work of her late father and his partner. But history seems to be repeating itself. An actress has been crushed whilst sealed in a sound booth. As other mysterious deaths follow. Cassandra begins to realise there's ghosts stirring within the walls of the studios. An ancient force has been unleashed and its making the beloved characters created within its walls anything but family friendly. Somehow, they've started to manifest as unstoppable monsters thirsty for blood. The Mystery of West Vale Sanitarium byJoshua J. Price & Tanja Milojevic. There's evil out there that would make the most vicious monsters look merciful. As Tony and Cassandra argue about whether or not to hire a new secretary, an old friend walks back into their lives. Alice Wilkes, who they previously met on doomed Flight 493, is ready and willing to take on the job but within minutes of stepping into their office, she is possessed. A spirit has been bound to our plane of existence because of the pain it feels for a group of children in upstate New York so Tony and Cassandra fly into action and travel to the West Vale Sanitarium to investigate. But, for Cassandra, this case is going to be like no other, as she is about to discover emotions she has never previously experienced. The Mystery of Apartment 493 by Alan Flanagan. We interrupt this broadcast with breaking news of a pair of deaths in Bangor early this evening. The deceased have been named locally as Anthony Peterson and Cassandra Collins. When Cassandra invites Tony over to see her new apartment, it's meant to be a blessed night off -- crack open a bottle of wine, reminisce about old times, make fun of Cassandra's furnishings. But when you're the best pair of detectives in the tri-state area, mystery has a way of arriving at the door unannounced. Soon Tony and Cassandra find themselves trapped in apartment 493, battling unspeakable horrors and a creature determined to feed on them both --and tear their sanity apart in the process. And Cassandra thought it was just the rent that was killer. The Mystery of the Soulmates Hotel by Grace Knight. There's a hotel in Bar Harbor that can take the faith of a pious man in a single night... When Tony and Cassandra go undercover to investigate some suspicious goings on at a famous matchmaking hotel, they think they're in for a relaxing trip to the seaside (albeit one with more roleplay than Tony would like), but when people start disappearing, and the other guests' personalities begin to change, they know they have to put a stop to it. Just who is the officious Mrs. Hill? Where are people disappearing to? And how long can Tony and Cassandra keep lying to themselves about their true feelings? CAST: Lara Parker (Cassandra Collins), Jerry Lacy (Tony Peterson), Sydney Aldridge (Alice Wilkes),Tom Michael Blyth (Myron Ratzenberger / Dale / Miles Wellington / Farmer / Officer 2 / The Football Coach / John Simmons / Daniel Jones), Abi Harris (Agnes Audley / Natalie Roth / Madeline / The Maid / Mrs. Hill), Jake Wardle (Randall Merrick / Billy Walker / Reginald / Steve Jones), Doireann May White (Duffy Guzman / Tina Heart / Caitlin / Officer 1 / The Architect / Jodie Price / Receptionist / Bartender), Philip Meeks (Mr Bluff), Alan Flanagan (Narrator / Newcaster),Tanja Milojevic (Deputy Jenkins), Joshua J Price (Officer Bradley).

The Eve of St Eligius: and other dark stories
The stories in The Eve of St Eligius - 22 of them in 76,000 words - may be described in a shorthand way as `dark' but this belies their variety in terms of darkness, location, time setting, length and other ways. For example, the opener entitled Guardian, a story of an encounter a few months after WWII, could only be described as dark, but Yellow Eyes, the fourth story, although donning the traditional clothing of many stories of the supernatural, wears it in an optimistic (and, I hope, original) way. Some of the other stories do a similar thing. The First and Last Letter, based on actual events in the Smalls Lighthouse off the Pembrokeshire coast at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, is told in just a few pages, though that didn't prevent it from forming the key part of an opera libretto. This opera, For Those in Peril, was produced in Illinois in 2018. In contrast, three of the stories are of novella length. You may think this is appropriate in at least the instance of Contract of One Thousand, where the protagonist has a lifespan of 239 years. There are no Dracula castles here but you will find some unusual centrepieces for the stories: an ashtray in Memento, a modern car in Safety First, a decommissioned GPO telephone box in Waxlow and Lilac, and so on. If you're looking for something different, this is the place to look.

**A The White Review Book of the Year** A dazzling and provocative debut story collection from celebrated Indonesian writer Intan Paramaditha, putting fierce and fabulous female characters centre stage in brilliantly funny and sharp twists on fairy tale. Inspired by horror fiction, myths and fairy tales, Apple and Knife is an unsettling ride that swerves into the supernatural to explore the dangers and power of occupying a female body in today's world. These stories set in the Indonesian everyday - in corporate boardrooms, shanty towns, on dangdut stages - reveal a soupy otherworld stewing just beneath the surface. This is subversive feminist horror at its best, where men and women alike are arbiters of fear, and where revenge is sometimes sweetest when delivered from the grave. Dark, humorous, and vividly realised, Apple and Knife brings together taboos, inversions, sex and death in a heady, intoxicating mix.

From Beacon Hill to Southie, historic Boston is a town of vibrant neighborhoods knit into a seamless whole. But as Jim Banks and Trix Newcomb learn in a terrifying instant, it is also a city divided-split into three separate versions of itself by a mad magician once tasked with its protection. Jim is happily married to Jenny, with whom he has a young daughter, Holly. Trix is Jenny's best friend, practically a member of the family-although she has secretly been in love with Jenny for years. Then Jenny and Holly inexplicably disappear-and leave behind a Boston in which they never existed. Only Jim and Trix remember them. Only Jim and Trix can bring them back. With the help of Boston's Oracle, an elderly woman with magical powers, Jim and Trix travel between the fractured cities, for that is where Jenny and Holly have gone. But more is at stake than one family's happiness. If Jim and Trix should fail, the spell holding the separate Bostons apart will fail too, and the cities will reintegrate in a cataclysmic implosion. Someone, it seems, wants just that. Someone with deadly shadow men at their disposal.

So desperate that when wealthy strangers ask her to procure libations for an extravagant party Ellie sells them everything she has, including some booze she acquired under unusual circumstances. What Ellie doesn't know is that this booze is special. Distilled from foul mushrooms by a cult of diabolists, those who drink it see terrible things - like the destruction of Long Island in fire and flood. The cult is masquerading as a church promising salvation through temperance and a return to the good old days, so it's hard for Ellie to take a stand against them, especially when her father joins, but Ellie loves Long Island, and she loves her family, and she'll do whatever it takes to ensure neither is torn apart.

Horror Stories: Classic Tales from Hoffmann to Hodgson
The modern horror story grew and developed across the nineteenth century, embracing categories as diverse as ghost stories, the supernatural and psychological horror, medical and scientific horror, colonial horror, and tales of the uncanny and precognition. This anthology brings together twenty-nine of the greatest horror stories of the period, from 1816 to 1912, from the British, Irish, American, and European traditions. It ranges widely across the sub-genres to encompass authors whose terror-inducing powers remain unsurpassed. The book includes stories by some of the best writers of the century - Hoffmann, Poe, Balzac, Dickens, Hawthorne, Melville, and Zola - as well as established genre classics from M. R. James, Arthur Machen, Bram Stoker, Algernon Blackwood, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and others. It includes rare and little-known pieces by writers such as William Maginn, Francis Marion Crawford, W. F. Harvey, and William Hope Hodgson, and shows the important role played by periodicals in popularizing the horror story. Wherever possible, stories are reprinted in their first published form, with background information about their authors and helpful, contextualizing annotation. Darryl Jones's lively introduction discusses horror's literary evolution and its articulation of cultural preoccupations and anxieties. These are stories guaranteed to freeze the blood, revolt the senses, and keep you awake at night: prepare to be terrified!

Alice Isn't Dead
From the creator of the wildly popular Welcome to Night Vale podcast comes a story about loving, about searching - and about the courage you need when you find the unexpected. For fans of Stephen King, Serial, Twin Peaks and of course the eponymous number one iTunes podcast itself. Keisha Lewis mourned the loss of her wife, Alice, who disappeared two years ago. There was a search, there was grief beyond what she thought was possible. There was a funeral. But then Keisha began to see her wife, again and again, in the background of news reports from all over America. Alice isn't dead. And she is showing up at the scene of every tragedy in the country. Keisha shrugs off her old life and hits the road as a trucker - hoping on some level that travelling the length of the country will lead her to the person she loves. What she finds are buried crimes and monsters (both human and unimaginable), government conspiracies, haunted service stations and a darkness far older than the highway system it lies beneath. Inspired by the eponymous podcast, Alice Isn't Dead is a story about loving, about searching - and about the courage you need when what you find is terrifyingly unexpected. Cast in the fluorescent lights of midnight diner-signs, this story is as big as the open road and as intimate as the darkness of a trucker's cab: perfect for fans of Stephen King, Serial, Twin Peaks and American Gods.
