Exam board: AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Eduqas, WJEC; CXC Level & Subject: GCSE English Literature; Cape Literatures in English First teaching: September 2015; 2016 First examination: June 2017; May-June 2018 `She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me; and I am in no humour at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men.' Such is the unpromising start to one of the most well-known relationships in English literature. Can vivacious, intelligent, but fortuneless Elizabeth Bennet and the wealthy, reserved and seemingly haughty Mr Darcy see past their first impressions of one another? Jane Austen's 1813 novel paints a witty picture of Georgian society, showing through the ups and downs of the five Bennet sisters the lengths to which women must go to secure a husband and position - and, in Elizabeth's case, to find a marriage of true minds. This Collins Classroom Classics edition includes an introduction and glossary to support students, written by an experienced teacher.

Reflective Teaching in Schools
The book you can trust to guide you through your teaching career, as the expert authors share tried and tested techniques in both primary and secondary settings. For this new edition Andrew Pollard has worked with the same core author team to bring you expert guidance from top practitioners, in the form of a text that is both cohesive and that continues to evolve to meet the needs of today's teachers. It is designed for trainees whether in universities or schools (such as School Direct, SCITT). Reflective Teaching in Schools uniquely provides two levels of support: - practical, evidence--based guidance on key classroom issues - including relationships, behaviour, curriculum planning, teaching strategies and assessment - evidence--informed `principles' and 'concepts' to help you continue developing your skills. New to this edition: - 10 Lesson Study cases illustrate the impact this approach can have on classroom teaching, whether in a city Primary School or rural Secondary Academy - 10 Toolkit Evidence summaries based on the Sutton Trust-EEF Teaching and Learning Toolkit cover topics like collaborative learning - New Reflective Activities and guidance on Key Readings at the end of each chapter - Updates to reflect recent changes in curriculum and assessment across the UK reflectiveteaching.co.uk provides a treasure trove of additional support. It now includes a new chapter on mentoring, a glossary to help decipher the difference between IEP and LAP, and much more.

Reimagining Childhood Studies
Reimagining Childhood Studies incites, and provides a forum for, dialogue and debate about the direction and impetus for critical and global approaches to social-cultural studies of children and their childhoods. Set against the backdrop of a quarter century of research and theorising arising out of the new social studies of childhood, each of the 13 original contributions strives to extend the conceptual reach and relevance of the work being undertaken in the dynamic and expanding field of childhood studies in the 21st century. Internationally renowned contributors engage with contemporary scholarship from both the global north and south to address questions of power, inequity, reflexivity, subjectivities and representation from poststructuralist, posthumanist, postcolonial, feminist, queer studies and political economy perspectives. In so doing, the book provides a deconstructive and reconstructive dialogue, offering a renewed agenda for future scholarship. The book also moves the insights of childhood studies beyond the boundaries of this field, helping to mainstream insights about children's everyday lives from this burgeoning area of study and avoid the dangers of marginalizing both children and scholarship about childhood. This carefully curated collection extends beyond critiques of specified research arenas, traditions, concepts or approaches to serve as a bridge in the transformation of childhood studies at this important juncture in its history.

Exam board: AQA Level & Subject: GCSE English Literature First teaching: September 2015 First examination: June 2017 Moonlight was streaming into the room, and it was bright with a vague and shifty radiance. Looking straight at me and suspended, as it were, in the air, for all beneath was in shadow, there hung a face... A mysterious letter, a missing father, stolen jewels and a man found dead in a locked room. Private detective Sherlock Holmes and his faithful companion Dr Watson have their work cut out in a case which takes them through the suburbs of south London, back in time to the forts and swamps of colonial India, and climaxes in a dramatic chase along the river Thames. Arthur Conan Doyle's 1890 novel is the famous detective's second case.

Educating English Language Learners in an Inclusive Environment: Second Edition
For teachers and teacher educators striving to address a growing number of state mandates relating to the education of English language learners (ELLs), Educating English Language Learners in an Inclusive Environment, Second Edition provides a reader-friendly survey of key topics, including: legal and professional imperatives, cultural concerns, linguistics, literacy instruction, assessment, policy, and politics. This overview will be useful to in-service teachers with little or no preparation for working with ELLs but who nevertheless face legislative demands to teach both academic content and English. It will also be useful to teacher educators trying to squeeze preparation for working with ELLs into already overflowing teacher preparation programs. Though many try, no one text can provide exhaustive information; there is simply too much to learn. This second edition instead provides readers with a road map to critical topics and to specific resources they can use independently to learn more, as they will surely need to do.
