Real-Time C++: Efficient Object-Oriented and Template Microcontroller Programming
With this book, Christopher Kormanyos delivers a highly practical guide to programming real-time embedded microcontroller systems in C++. It is divided into three parts plus several appendices. Part I provides a foundation for real-time C++ by covering language technologies, including object-oriented methods, template programming and optimization. Next, part II presents detailed descriptions of a variety of C++ components that are widely used in microcontroller programming. It details some of C++'s most powerful language elements, such as class types, templates and the STL, to develop components for microcontroller register access, low-level drivers, custom memory management, embedded containers, multitasking, etc. Finally, part III describes mathematical methods and generic utilities that can be employed to solve recurring problems in real-time C++. The appendices include a brief C++ language tutorial, information on the real-time C++ development environment and instructions for building GNU GCC cross-compilers and a microcontroller circuit. For this third edition, the most recent specification of C++17 in ISO/IEC 14882:2017 is used throughout the text. Several sections on new C++17 functionality have been added, and various others reworked to reflect changes in the standard. Also several new sample projects are introduced and existing ones extended, and various user suggestions have been incorporated. To facilitate portability, no libraries other than those specified in the language standard itself are used. Efficiency is always in focus and numerous examples are backed up with real-time performance measurements and size analyses that quantify the true costs of the code down to the very last byte and microsecond. The target audience of this book mainly consists of students and professionals interested in real-time C++. Readers should be familiar with C or another programming language and will benefit most if they have had some previous experience with microcontroller electronics and the performance and size issues prevalent in embedded systems programming.

Seven Databases in Seven Weeks 2e
Data is getting bigger and more complex by the day, and so are your choices in handling it. Explore some of the most cutting-edge databases available - from traditional relational databases to newer NoSQL approaches - and make informed decisions about challenging data storage problems. This is the only comprehensive guide to the world of NoSQL databases, with in-depth practical and conceptual introductions to seven different technologies: Redis, Neo4J, CouchDB, MongoDB, HBase, Postgres, and DynamoDB. This second edition includes a new chapter on DynamoDB and updated content for each chapter. While relational databases such as MySQL remain as relevant as ever, the alternative, NoSQL paradigm has opened up new horizons in performance and scalability and changed the way we approach data-centric problems. This book presents the essential concepts behind each database alongside hands-on examples that make each technology come alive. With each database, tackle a real-world problem that highlights the concepts and features that make it shine. Along the way, explore five database models - relational, key/value, columnar, document, and graph - from the perspective of challenges faced by real applications. Learn how MongoDB and CouchDB are strikingly different, make your applications faster with Redis and more connected with Neo4J, build a cluster of HBase servers using cloud services such as Amazon's Elastic MapReduce, and more. This new edition brings a brand new chapter on DynamoDB, updated code samples and exercises, and a more up-to-date account of each database's feature set. Whether you're a programmer building the next big thing, a data scientist seeking solutions to thorny problems, or a technology enthusiast venturing into new territory, you will find something to inspire you in this book. What You Need: You'll need a *nix shell (Mac OS or Linux preferred, Windows users will need Cygwin), Java 6 (or greater), and Ruby 1.8.7 (or greater). Each chapter will list the downloads required for that database.

Clean C++: Sustainable Software Development with C++ 17
Write maintainable, extensible, and durable software with modern C++. This book is a must for every developer, software architect, or team leader who is interested in good C++ code, and thus also wants to save development costs. If you want to teach yourself about writing clean C++, Clean C++ is exactly what you need. It is written to help C++ developers of all skill levels and shows by example how to write understandable, flexible, maintainable, and efficient C++ code. Even if you are a seasoned C++ developer, there are nuggets and data points in this book that you will find useful in your work. If you don't take care with your code, you can produce a large, messy, and unmaintainable beast in any programming language. However, C++ projects in particular are prone to be messy and tend to slip into bad habits. Lots of C++ code that is written today looks as if it was written in the 1980s. It seems that C++ developers have been forgotten by those who preach Software Craftsmanship and Clean Code principles. The Web is full of bad, but apparently very fast and highly optimized C++ code examples, with cruel syntax that completely ignores elementary principles of good design and well-written code. This book will explain how to avoid this scenario and how to get the most out of your C++ code. You'll find your coding becomes more efficient and, importantly, more fun. What You'll Learn * Gain sound principles and rules for clean coding in C++ * Carry out test driven development (TDD) * Discover the C++ design patterns and idioms * Apply these design patterns Who This Book Is For Any C++ developer and software engineer with an interest in producing better code.

Oracle Application Express by Design: Managing Cost, Schedule, and Quality
Learn the many design decisions that must be made before starting to build a large Oracle Application Express (APEX) application for the cloud or enterprise. One of APEX's key strengths is the fact that it is a Rapid Application Development (RAD) tool. This is also a major weakness when it tempts developers to start coding too soon. Small applications that consist of tens of pages can be coded without a lot of design work because they can be re-factored quickly when design flaws are discovered. Design flaws in large cloud and enterprise applications that consist of hundreds or thousands of pages are not so easy to re-factor due to the time needed to redevelop and retest the application, not to mention the risk of breaking functionality in subtle ways.Designing a large application before coding starts is a profitable exercise because a thoughtful design goes a long way in mitigating cost overruns and schedule slippage while simultaneously enhancing quality. Oracle Application Express by Design takes into account perspectives from other non-developer stakeholders such as maintenance developers, business analysts, testers, technical writers, end users, and business owners; overlooking these perspectives is one of the chief causes of expensive rework late in the development cycle. Oracle Application Express by Design illustrates APEX design principles by using architecture diagrams, screen shots, and explicit code snippets to guide developers through the many design choices and complex interrelationship issues that must be evaluated before embarking on large APEX projects. This book:Guides you through important, up-front APEX design decisionsHelps you to optimize your design by keeping all stakeholders in mindExplicit code examples show how design impacts cost, schedule, and qualityWhat You Will LearnPick and choose from the list of designs before coding beginsBake optimal quality into the underlying fabric of an APEX applicationThink and design from outside the developer's narrow perspectiveOptimize APEX application designs to satisfy multiple stakeholder groupsEvaluate design options through hands-on, explicit code examplesDefine and measure success for large cloud and enterprise APEX applicationsWho This Book Is ForAPEX developers and development teams. Architecture diagrams, screen shots, and explicit code snippets are designed to focus developers' attention on the diverse needs of all the stakeholders who are involved in building large cloud and enterprise APEX applications. Readers will find concrete examples in the book of how to implement various design strategies to achieve optimal results for their organization.

Formal Modeling and Analysis of Distributed Systems: An Introduction Based on Executable Modeling in Maude: 2017
This book introduces formal modeling and analysis of distributed systems by means of executable formal modeling in rewriting logic and model checking analyses in the tool Maude. The first part of the book introduces classical equational algebraic specification and term rewrite systems, including reasoning about confluence and termination, as well as equational logic. The second part introduces rewriting logic and deals with the executable formal modeling of distributed systems. The book develops executable formal Maude models of classic distributed systems, which are then simulated and are further analysed through reachability analysis in Maude. In particular, the book shows how Maude can be used to break the Needham-Schroeder Public Key cryptographic protocol. Finally, the book introduces (linear) temporal logic that can be used to express complex requirements that distributed systems must satisfy and it uses Maude LTL model checker to analyze whether our models satisfy desired temporal properties.

Learn the popular MVVM development framework with a focus on Xamarin.Forms. Clear examples are provided of the advantages of MVVM along with step-by-step demonstrations of how to create applications at different levels of complexity. Application development is covered for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone using mvvmlight and mvvmcross as the libraries. The model-view-view-model (MVVM) pattern is valued by many developers as an excellent way to create sophisticated modern applications. Its clear separation of presentation and business logic produces a clean implementation that promotes speed, scalability, and code reuse in applications with a complex UI. These characteristics have long been highly valuable to WPF developers, and now that benefit is available to Xamarin developers, too. What You'll LearnSet up and install MVVMUnderstand the advantages and disadvantages of MVVMDiscover why inversion of control is important in MVVMConduct unit testing of MVVM appsWho This Book Is ForExperienced developers with knowledge of development using the Xamarin framework. Developers should have a working knowledge of .NET and be familiar with app development. It is expected that the user will know how to set up Xamarin Studio (or Visual Studio).
