Writing as Reflective Action

At the heart of this text is the desire for students to become active and engaged citizens through writing, reflection, reflexivity and reading. Challenging, proactive readings push students to analyze and understand how their personal ideologies arise out of and relate to the larger culture. Assorted writing assignments present opportunities for writing with different rhetorical purposes. The readings are integrated with the writing assignments through sequenced reading, writing, and thinking assignments. WRA challenges students to read the word and the world in relationship to their understanding of who they are and what isimportant to them.
