Tsitsikamma: Eden of the Garden Route

Tsitsikamma is a Khosian word meaning place of much water, and its spectacular scenery includes Indian Ocean breakers pounding rocky shores beneath 180 m high cliffs, evergreen forests and Fynbos (Heathland unique to the Cape) rolling down to the sea in a lush carpet carved through by ancient rivers running through deep ravines. Tsitsikamma protects a wonderland of intertidal and marine life, and conserves 11 per cent of South Africa's temperate south coast shoreline. 30 per cent of the park is Fynbos, and offers an astonishing variety of plantlife and flowers.
