The Master Builder

This title is first published in 1892. Ibsen's study of the price of ambition resonates ever stronger today. Halvard Solness, a middle-aged architect, has clawed his way to prominence. His single-minded focus on his job, however, has hardened him and prevented him from having any meaningful relationship. With the arrival of Hilda Wangel, a young woman who has idolized Solness for years, the fire of pride and arrogance is stoked and Solness is encouraged to make one final, fateful grand gesture.
