The Large Vault at Taq-i Bustan: A Study in Late Sasanian Royal Art

In this study that relies upon early Persian and Muslim sources, the author explores the questions of the name, date, origin, function and significance of the Large Vault at Taq-i Bustan. Noteworthy observations on the function and significance of the monument are its identification as a triumphal arch that served as a vehicle of expression of ancient Iranian multi-layered concept of kingship.
