A systematic description of the administration of the material world and society of Assyria in the middle Assyrian period (ca. 1500-1000 B.C.), using also previously unpublished texts from recent excavations in Syria. The first part of the study is a sketch of structural features and patterns of the state economy in Assyria between Bronze and Iron Age. In the second part administrative officials as well as professions in agriculture, cattle-breeding, craft, foreign trade etc. are treated in separate chapters consisting of 1. Quotations 2. Diachronic table of office-holders (name, title and dating) and 3. Discussion of duties/functions.
