Madness: A History

Madness intends to engage and inform a wide audience of both general readers and academics about the concept of madness. The subject is contextualized through the use of historical and contemporary accounts of madness, and interpreted through theoretical and empirical frameworks that emphasize psycho-social and bio-medical understandings. Madness seeks to address questions including what is madness; who are the mad; why is madness horrifying; and what should be done about it.
