Late one rainy night in London a bus is bombed; passengers are maimed and killed. There is no apparent motive for the bombing, and the police have only fragmentary evidence. What they ultimately find leads them to murder, illegal arms sales, and defections from the provincial Irish Republic Army. As the tension mounts, the reader finds himself drawn deeper and deeper into the tangled relationships of the 'Provos'. The clash of personalities amidst the ferment and contradiction sof the IRA cause makes for absorbing reading.
